AS7 won't let me write a dot
« on: November 02, 2015, 01:50:38 AM »
I'm trying to write: #include "timer1.h" but AS7 refuses to write the dot, with either key. In fact it won't use the dot key anywhere. So how does one write a program ?

That is a weird bug...

Open the file in another text editor and do it.

Extremely, the whole point of AS7 to me is the fact that I write code and it colurs text differently depending on what it is which i like.

A restart seems to solve it, very weired, I seem to remember the same problem in 6.2 actually.

AS7 as in Atmel Studio 7, I suppose.
Just working with it now...no problems with either key.
Possibilities:
  • HW problem: Not likely. The USB scancodes for the two keys are different
  • Key redefinition inside AS7: also not likely, VS/AS7 won't let you redefine a "visible" key.

This leave us with poltergeist...most appropriate, given the date :scared:

Additional thoughts:
  • Windows keymap problem: does the "." work outside AS7? Have you loaded a custom keymap in Windows?
  • You could try disabling all the assist function in AS7 (VAssisX)
  • Also, try to reset AS7 key to "Default"

I must say that AS7 has got a weird keyboard handling: I'm used to "Alt-arrow up/down" to move selected lines around, and there's no way I can convince AS7 to honor my setting...

A restart solved it. Not impressed. Standard keyboard etc.

This is a bug related to Visual Assist and is not specific to Atmel's customized version of Visual Studio.  The root cause is a corrupted .suo file (.atsuo in AS).  Closing the program and deleting the .suo/.atsuo file from your solution folder will fix the problem.  I don't know what the file is used for, but it will be regenerated the next time you open the solution.  You can also disable Visual Assist, which disables a lot of helpful features, but it's good for temporary relief.  The problem also isn't specific to the dot character, I've seen it crop up with opening parentheses and brackets as well.

The .suo file stores the user options/settings for the solution. These are settings specific to the user not to the project(s) and is (typically) not checked into source control...

Use Ctrl-Arrows to navigate 'tokens' and press addition shift to select it...

Sometimes keys just stop working in windows. Started happening in win7 and still happens randomly even in win10. Its pretty rare though, maybe once or twice a year.
I think there is a bug in the keyboard driver somewhere.

I've seen it on multiple computers. A restart always fixes it.
