ATSAMD21G18A Power On Reset(POR) functinality
« on: June 29, 2018, 12:47:51 pm »
Hi,

I am using ATSAMD21G18A MCU on my dev board which is run on a single cell LiPo battery. My board is not getting started when battery charged and powering-up after the complete battery discharge.

I am doubting that this might be the reason for occurring this kind of behavior:

Given in the datasheet: At power up, RESET is driven low by a debugger. The on-chip regulator holds the system in a POR state until the input supply is above the POR threshold (refer to Powe-On Reset (POR) characteristics). The system continues to be held in this static state until the internally regulated supplies have reached a safe operating state.
[/b]

If this is the reason please suggest me a way to resolve this??

Thanks in advance.

There are still requirements for minimal power supply rise time. If your power circuit doe not meet them (if battery was flat and you are slowly charging it, then those requirement will not be met, fir sure), then you need an external supervisor to hold chip in reset.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for the reply.

Actually, I am using a Battery "protection circuit module(PCM)", still getting this issue frequently. Will it act as a supervisor??

Can you suggest better Supervisor module?

Thanks in advance.

I have no idea what exact part you are using, but based on the name, I would says it will not be helpful here.

You will have to do your own research. Here is just a random part from DigiKey that will work https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/on-semiconductor/NCP303LSN30T1G/NCP303LSN30T1GOSTR-ND/920063

Search the whole "PMIC - Supervisors" section and pick what works for your application.

But before any of this, you should look at your power supply with the scope and confirm that your rise slope is too long. You may have some other problem.
