You presume they're locked but why not throw them on the programmer to make sure? Maybe you'll get lucky, you never know until you try.
Those MSP430 have a physical fuse so it's not like the common "erase the chip and it's ready for reuse" case. On the other hand, that might make it even easier to attack the protection --- decap and look for the blown fuse, then restore it with microwiring techniques. Physically damaged areas will stand out a lot more on a die photo than EEPROM cells.
As for the Renesas, it depends on the model. Some have permanent protection, others don't.
