ESP8266 - Ultimate DevBoard - Evolution
« on: April 24, 2015, 11:32:35 am »
As you know, mostly of the existing ESP Boards are just some sort of breakout or breadboard adapters for ESP8266 Modules with or without a regulator on board.

Do you remember the CBDB story?
http://www.esp8266-projects.com/2015/02/esp8266-breadboard-time-cheap-and-dirty.html

Because of the big interest raised by the CBDB project, a fresh new DevBoard was born:
http://www.esp8266-projects.com/2015/04/esp8266-ultimate-devboard-finally.html

And because of the onboard capabilities I can call it a true IOT Development Board:
  • Easy AP/Client Wifi Access
  • Easy Firmware Programming
  • Easy Software Development
  • 18 bit ADC
  • 12 bit DAC
  • Voltage Measurement
  • Current Measurement
  • Temperature Measurement
  • Real Time Clock
  • High Resolution LCD COG Display with direct sunlight reading
  • User Definable Buttons
  • On Board 3.3V Regulator

How many of you were dreaming about something like that in your Uni labs even 10 years ago? :)

Waiting your thoughs about ;)

Part 2 of the the new CBDBv2 Evolution Series (http://www.esp8266-projects.com/2015/04/esp8266-ultimate-devboard-finally.html)

This time we will take a look at the firmware programming process options and running our first test programm on this new Board.

An example of Arduino IDE Setup for direct programming and firmware uploading on the new ESP8266 CBDBv2 Evolution DevBoard.  No user intevention needed,  no buttons to press :)

What other functions to you think will be "nice-to-have" as expansion boards for CBDBv2 Evo Board?

Just added, because of high requrests, the MAINS Power Dimmer/Switch Module

What functions to you think is better to remove/replace from the main board?

Where is the point where you consider to many functions means less flexibility? Please keep in mind the Board was designed as a Development Board/Learning Tool and the integrated features are below:

    18 bit ADC
    12 bit DAC
    Voltage Measurement
    Current Measurement
    Temperature Measurement
    Real Time Clock
    I2C LCD Display interface
    User Definable Buttons
    On Board 3.3V Regulator

I am really looking forward to hear your oppinions about. Thank you.

Do you have a component list or github folder for CBDBv2? And other PCB designs on your blog?
I noticed on schematic and pcb there are no no component values, only component ID's

Like your blog, lots of info.  :-+

Thank you :)

Lots of things happened lately but as soon as possible a BOM list will be available.
Still tweaking on it and didn't had the chance to finalise a decent looking blog printable BOM.

If you look on the schematic, for a quick one just use:
- resistors - 10k, except led, voltage divider,current shunt.
- decoupling caps 100n,
- pol caps as 10u/100u.

CBDBv2 description List it's giving you also details about each function available.

If you want a PCB for experimenting they are directly available at our preferred PCB House, Dirty PCBs:

The schematic of that thing is drawn so ugly I wouldn't touch that thing. Blargh... (Just statement of a fact)

That is not statement of fact, that is just your opinion, and offensive.
People are taking the time to document and share their projects and knowledge for free, I appreciate that and accept that not everyone has the knowledge or time to produce professional standard diagrams.
As long as it is drawn accurately and works that's all that's need.

IMHO the ESP8266 is a mighty interesting module. I ordered a few just to play around with it.
The schematics are very bad indeed. Don't try to cram everything together on one page. I know it is free but if you want to make it easy for people to use your work put some time into a nice and easy to understand schematic otherwise it's just a waste of your time.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

I really like esp8266. So far my favourite module is esp-12 sold by Alice. It has all the right breakouts and they even provide dimensions for PCB integrations:

Hello

I just wamted to find out the SOT23-6 Device U1 on the CDDB v2.0b Board near the SELDAC Jumper. I cant find it in the Circuit Diagramm

Thank You

Sorry for delay, a nasty cold put me "out-of-the-grid" for few days.

CBDBv2 bord was designed as a educational platform to be used for many tutorials and experiments hence the different and sometime redundand functions that you might find onboard.

Regarding U1 and the SELADC 3 way jumper, both can be used (not in the same time but as an option) for the same function, switching ADC input between Voltage and Current measurement.

U1 is a SPDT analog switch IC, you can use there a low ON-state resistance one with the break-before-make feature, like TS5A3159.

 Few working examples:
- U1 usage - do autoswitching between Voltage and Current measurements using internal ADC .
- 3 pin SELADC :
     - manual select Voltage/Current cource for internal ADC
     - choose to connect one source to the internal ADC by jumper and also can go with a second jumper wire to the high precision onboard ADC for example.

The schematics on my blog are accurate but might not include all these functions as quite a few versions released. Will do my best to keep it update (and insanely ugly, lol) but been busy as hell with a lot of things lately.

Happy breadboarding,
TJ.

PS: apparently I am wasting my time posting all these stuff but you know what: I really enjoy it.
