FPGA evaluation/introduction board suggestions
« on: September 24, 2016, 05:06:32 am »
Hi! I'm near the end of my EE undergraduate education and I'd like to get more adquainted with FPGAs since I'm thinking about developing either a quite complex vital signs monitoring system or some other ideas i'm still working on, for my theses. I have come to the conclusion that an fpga would be among the best choices for such projects so I'd like to ask for any recomendations among the numerous developement boards available. I already have some experience with verilog and vhdl.
Thanks!

Get DE0-SoC from Terasic. I'm going to buy one this week :)
It's awesome little board with both FPGA and hardcore ARM. Can do many things in modern tech with it.

A little expensive but well done, and good documentation, it's the board most used in US universities

I started with the Arty board (Artix 7 FPGA): http://store.digilentinc.com/arty-board-artix-7-fpga-development-board-for-makers-and-hobbyists/

It's decent and comes with a Vivado license (tied to the board).
