General Question
« on: December 23, 2016, 05:40:02 am »
Hello,

I just joined this forum.

I have some question to ask, but as I am not familiar with the community, so I will ask my other questions latter.

I will enter into this community by asking simple question as follow:

Does IR2118 is compatible with 5V input coming from microcontroller? I am not getting answer in the datasheet.

I just want to drive mosfet with both the voltages 12V and 24V.

Please help me. Your help would be precise for me.

A good question to start learning from, the VCC for the buffer is specified as 10 to 20V. The logic input has thresholds for high and low at 9.5V and 6V respectively, but the IR2118 does have a pullup allowing for some creativity driving it with an open collector (or drain) output:

HI,

Thanks for your reply.  It is helpful to me.

As I am using micro-controller to generate PWM pulses. The micro-controller can be able to generate pulses of amplitude 5V only. Please help me to understand, How can I switch MOSFET using this IC IR2118.

Your help will start my stuck project. Please help me.

Can you show us how you are using your mosfet?
Do you have part of a schematic?
These things would help.  There are many mosfet gate drivers out there and without knowing the kind of system voltages you are working with & how you are using the mosfet, it is difficult to offer a good solid recommendation where I wouldn't want to lead you to throwing out time and money on parts which may not work out for you.

Hello BrainHG,

Thanks for your reply.

I am using MOSFET having part number IRF 3205.

As I am providing 12V VCC to the driver IC IR2118 and i/p PWM pulses are from micro-controller. I am not getting o/p of IC IR2118.  The O/p of IC IR2118 will go to the gate of IRF3205 MOSFET.

Please help me in this.

The IC IR2118 isn't nice with microcontroler PWMs since it needs an above input voltage of 9.5v to activate the output.
If you were to use an IR2127 instead (remember to invert the output of your PWM), the input only of this mosfet driver needs only 3v to activate the output.  Everything else in your circuit should remain the same.
