Help how to write an application for Android please ...
« on: January 27, 2017, 07:37:11 am »
Hi,
What is the easiest way for someone to write his own application for Android and maybe for iOS later (also absolute beginner) with switches, knobs, displays, graphs, data logger etc (graphics environment - GUI), to support a microcontroller (ST32), via Wi-Fi or/and Bluetooth ?
Something like drag and draw and WYSIWYG programming environment i think ...
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Have a look at www.xamarin.com  and optionally Microsoft Visual Studio Community Edition

If you are a complete beginner then there are many free resources to help you understand the development environments and code samples, not only on the xamarin and microsoft websites but also more structured learning websites such as khan academy and microsoft academy.

there is also B4A here : https://www.b4x.com/b4a.html

xojo also that runs actually on win, linux, mac, ios and raspberry, will compile to android in a future version (end of the year ?)
http://www.xojo.com/index.php

B4A IDE is a little prehistoric compared to xojo, but has the advantage to be available right now.

Second "vote" for B4A. Visual Basic style programming hides a lot of the grunt work involved with creating an Android app. Great forum support to answer questions.

Xamarin is dead. Seriously, microsoft bought them and killed them off, to be replaced by a new and improved framework called... MAUI (seriously, they called it MAUI.)

I'm a fond user of B4X, the community there is amazing. Obviously you're going to have edge cases in which you need to go native, but compared other framework like XOJO and Flutter (which is mostly community based, AKA you're on your own for everything) B4X is the absolute winner

EDIT: Screw this. didn't see it was a very old thread revived by yet another bot account

Why do people do this bot stuff? For kicks?

Apps are a nightmare to maintain into the future. Always do a website :)
