How to access the ZYNQ Tab
« on: August 16, 2016, 08:46:41 pm »
Hello,

I'm using a Zedboard with a ZYNQ 7000 chip. While going through some online references on Xilinx's website, I saw a few pages like these:
http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx14_4/platform_studio/ps_r_gui_zynq_tab.htm
http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx14_4/platform_studio/ps_c_gui_mio_configuration.htm

Could someone tell me how I could get those Tabs? Are they on Vivado? I'm using a free student license. Do I have to purchase those?

Thanks

The "Platform Studio" in the url and on the top of the page is probably a hint.

Hi gauravmp,

To add the processing core to your design add a "Zynq7 Processing System" Ip block into your design (from the Window/IP Catalog window)

You will then get to to the ZYNQ7 window where you can find the configuration dialog boxes you are looking for.

Once you have customized your IP and generated your output, you can always change the options by double-clicking on the the IP block in your design hierarchy and/or block diagram (depending on how you use it).

The low end Zynq parts (Zynq 7010 & 7020) are fully supported in the Webpack.

http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx2013_1/ug940-vivado-tutorial-embedded-design.pdf is a good walkthough on how to use Zynq and Vivado

That is the PS7 block design IP in Vivado.
When you create a new (RTL) project and select your board (Zeboard) you get the initial project view. Somewhere you will find the operation "create a block design" - usually in the flow manager on the left sidebar. So create a block design and then select "add IP", and add a Zynq 7 processing system. Now you have the IP block in the design. Run "process automation" to implement the static I/O and memory interfaces. After that it is up to you what you want to have. Double clicking on the PS7 block will open it and lets you specify the use of various built-in peripherals as well as the I/O lines they will use (should match your hardware though).
Don't forget to create a HDL wrapper after you are done and then export the bitstream. After that you can start the SDK to create the rest of the project using one or both of the on board ARM cores.
Nothing sings like a kilovolt.
