Intel 8279 -looking for code example
« on: June 27, 2016, 01:33:55 am »
Hey! I'm in the midst of trying to interface an 8279 with a display and some keys. It sits in an existing system.

Issue is, it has so many modes and commands, and I don't feel comfortable with it from what I can read in datasheets, appnotes etc.

There wouldn't happen to be somebody out there having a code snippet of setting it up, would there?

Thanks in advance!

What kind of CPU / micro are you using to interface to the 8279, and what language are you using?

The Intel SDK-85 uses an 8279 keyboard / display controller and the SDK-85 System Design Kit User's Manual contains the monitor listing:

http://www.bitsavers.org/pdf/intel/8085/9800451B_SDK-85_Users_Man_Feb80.pdf

It's in 8085 assembly language so depending on what you're using it might be helpful to look at, or it might be so far different from your system that it's more confusing than helpful.

Well I may have forgotten to specify language - the ones you'd use to program hardware with, that is.

But you were right on the money, it is indeed an 8085 I'm using. Thanks for the link!
