ISO7816 SCR 243 SCM mCard

so, I'd like to put a PCMCIA SCR adapter in my laptop in order to read ISO 7816 cards for a few interesting apps. I just wonder if there is a writer/programmer around, with documentation, since I have to code the whole application in C under linux. As far as I understood, those PCMCIA adapter are handles like a serial port with a protocol over the uart.

tips? tricks? thanks  :D
