NEC uPD78P324GJ(A) alternative
« on: September 08, 2015, 07:36:50 am »
Hello All,

I would need your help in finding an alternative (replace the failed chip) for a NEC uPD78P324GJ(A) 16-/8-Bit Single-Chip Microcomputers 74 pin.

I'm struggling for some time now to find it, I'm from Europe and haven't find the above anywhere available for order so I'm looking for an alternative easier to find

Thanks in advance

NEC was merged with Renesas some time ago.
"Let me google it for you". For "78P324" you will find many info.
Data at "http://www.alldatasheet.com/view.jsp?Searchword=78P324"
This quite old chip is EOL as expected. It is a 78K3 series single-chip 16-Bit CPU.
UPD78P324GJ(A)-5BJ: 74-pin plastic QFP(20 x 20 mm) package, up to 16 MHz clock, 32kbyte OTP = One Time Programmable EPROM, with µPD27C1001A compatible programming and it is automotive qualified (A).

I'm aware of the datasheet for UPD78P324GJ(A)-5BJ

Unfortunately UPD78P324GJ(A)-5BJ is not available in europe, same issue as the original one.

Perhaps I missed something, have you had any luck finding it at any supplier in Europe?

This product is End Of Life for several years now, so only chance to get it is NOS parts.
Be careful for the source, as you are not able to check, if the device you buy is really empty or programmed already.
There may a chance at the RENESAS distributors, but quite low. There is also a litte chance as the RENESAS technical product support.
But even, if you get one "new" device, do you have the program code to program it?
Or is it still possible to read out the PROM content of the old device?
At ebay there is a actual offer for a quite close product with a UPD78P352 in KK-package (eeprom version, used with a special yamaichi socket for real-device tests)
But price is quite high.

It may a possible solution.

The one you suggested is 64pin ceramic and the one I have is 74pin plastic

I can get the code from the old one
