New STM32G0 Series?
« on: December 08, 2018, 12:50:37 am »
Press Release: https://blog.st.com/stm32g0-mainstream-90-nm-mcu/

Flyer PDF: https://www.st.com/content/ccc/resource/sales_and_marketing/promotional_material/flyer/group0/43/50/b5/1d/6c/cb/44/5c/flstm32g0/files/flstm32g0.pdf/jcr:content/translations/en.flstm32g0.pdf

ST's page for the series: https://www.st.com/en/microcontrollers/stm32g0-series.html

Some points which stick out (compared to other ST parts):
- single power supply pair on packages that have 64 pins or fewer, resulting in more IO
- runs at 64 mhz
- 32-36k of ram on the announced models, but states 'up to 128k' for even the 'value' line.
- Wide Range: 8 pin to 100 pin packages, 8kb to 128kb of ram, 16kb to 512 kb of flash. https://i0.wp.com/blog.st.com/wp-content/uploads/stm32g0_portfolio.jpg?ssl=1
- On the STM32G0x1 series, USB device/host is only available on some models (but all models have USB-C PD)

There appears to be some stock at digikey if you want to try them out.

What do you guys think of it?

(sorry if this has been posted before, i tried searching and didn't see anything)

It looks like the USB-capable devices will be released in either H1-2019 or H1-2020. The website doesn't make it clear which devices will have USB host/device support, but none of the just launched ones do.

Seems pretty interesting to have on chip USB-PD.
Saw mention of these pop in the CubeMX last week, but wasnt much info on them.

Good to see the smaller process nodes starting to make their way into the lower end of the product stack, and getting the power savings that comes with this.

Will be important the price point that they hit with these. Im hpoing for not too much above the current f0 lineup to make sure they are a viable option compared to the F3 lineup with the hardware fpu.

I only heard about this a week ago when ST started promoting the (North America) seminar series and webinar on it. I ordered and got two of the Nucleo board with the G0 from Digikey and just in time, as they're now out of stock for what looks like a couple of months.

I really like the sound of the 8 pin parts. That was the big thing I felt to be missing from the family.

I've already used the G0 in a project.

https://github.com/AlexKlimaj/LiPow-Firmware

I struggled to get the USB PD middleware going but finally got it working. I might write up a blog post on getting it up and running. I'm also considering building a small board in the form factor of the teensy but with USB C so people can add power delivery easily to projects.
