Not able to update firmware in J-link Clone
« on: August 21, 2017, 04:16:10 pm »
I'm trying to debug cortex-a9 cpu but it showing error "J-link does not have a intelligence for selected CPU". After that I'd tried to update the firmware but it showing device already has latest firmware.

It showing firmware date 2012 so how it could be latest?? How to update latest firmware in J-link clone??

This may not be a popular opinion, but buy a real J-Link and stop using Segger's IP on a clone.
Complexity is the number-one enemy of high-quality code.

Not all Jlinks support the A9.
Newer updates are only running on hardware v9 and higher I believe.
Besides you have no real Jlink debugger so you will have to email you're Chinese supplier if he has the update for you, good luck.

Clone.

Also... I mean, I'm totally on board with someone using a clone if its absolutely their only option. But no one is going to convince me they're working on A9 parts and can't afford a real Segger. That's nonsense.

Contact the manufacturer of the clone to get more stolen software....

Or don't be an asshole and pay Segger for their time.

It's not an error it's a warning.

It says you can still use it with your target CPU. Did you try it, and if so did it work?

More like advertising, it's just saying there is a faster better version available. Segger do this for other features as well. Obviously they want to sell new versions, but it might also help people ditch their clones for the genuine product.

The clone is based on the v7 hardware, which is way too old for even Cortex-M4F cores.

If this is a hobby project of yours you can upgrade to a a genuine J-Link EDU Mini. It shouldn’t hurt your wallet too much.

If it is a commercial project it may be better for you to either buy a genuine J-Link, or build your own CMSIS-DAP debug probe from a STM32F072C8T6 chip. (I used the STM32F0 chip for ST’s free offer of Keil compiler, which can make the building of the CMSIS-DAP firmware much easier.)

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...
