PIC ESUART to zigbee Xbee Pro

I am converting a program from a Arduino uno and xbee to a PIC and xbee.  The program works and it transmits to the xbee.  but I can't seem to control the information.  I need to send either a decimal number (preferred) or a binary number.

am using MPLAB X with the XC8 compliler.

the pic I am using is PIC16LF1827
