Edit:  Added "company" to the title

Edit:  Apology

Sorry I did not see the max entries in the set up - See Pic with most options

After I posted it, I have few options (no max entries) - See Pic with few options

I cannot delete the whole thing.  If a moderator wishes to delete the whole show, I do not mind and if they do, and I will redo this poll and set the max to 4 per vote    :-- :-- :-- :--   (I feel dumb - sorry - I hope this dies a fast death).  So if someone has some pull with a moderator and can delete the whole show, I will redo it with fewer selections but more votes.  thanks

But so far I am surprised it is Atmel, I thought it would be Microchip and I am sad that NXP is so low.

Came across this list of microcontrollers:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_common_microcontrollers

So I wonder what MCUs members use

Notice that there are 35 common MCUs, so it makes me wonder how many total there are?

This poll isn't very useful because it only lets you make one choice. I use at least a half dozen microcontrollers from several companies.
Complexity is the number-one enemy of high-quality code.

I agree with prior posters, real useful data should allow one to
vote for more than 1, you could consider a weighted usage for the
surveyee's choices as well.

As far as I can tell multiple votes at the same time is not a choice (would be a good idea).  But I believe I set it up to allow more than one vote, so I assume that means you have to re-log in to vote again.

Also, these are companies not MCUs. TI and many others have multiple very different MCU families.

Indeed, this makes choice hard. I voted for STM, because in general if there was 1 MCU manufacturer left on earth I would be most happy with their product lines.

However, if you narrow it down to only 8 to 16-bit CPU's for small projects, I would have picked Microchip/Atmel.

Those are brands, not MCUs.
Anyway, only 1 Atmel out of 36 votes looks unexpected to me.

I solely use STM32F lately. Because if you know one, you basically know all. And they have a large collection of sizes and shaped to fit all uses.
Sometimes I maintain some Silabs 8051 cores, but it's 10 years back in time compared to ARM on the level of compiler and debugging.

"Atmel" doesn't exist any more :-)  (acquired by Microchip)
Freescale (acquired by NXP), National Semiconductor (acquired by TI), NEC (merged into Renesas), Fujitsu (acquired by Spansion (?)), and Ubicom (sort-of acquired by Parallax), and Rockwell, are also gone.
Lattice, Xilinx, and Altera do not offer "microcontrollers" per se.
I'm not sure about some of the others.  That wikipedia page could use some editing!

I guess Atmel brand still exists, but it is owned by Microchip now.
Also, Altera was bought by Intel.

You can merge Freescale into NXP (and soon Qualcomm) as they are one entity now.

It's really worth knowing some of them, because all the MCUs have different features.

Till recently I've used Atmel, TI and STM.
Atmels are pretty simple when you stay on the Atmega/attiny level (no ARM). And cheap.
TI has so many it's hard to even tell, but MSP430/432 is definitely low power stuff. They have a lot of MCUs with their analog stuff, like special ADCs, RF etc.
STM seems more integrated as their families are more staightforward.

But after visiting electronica fair, which is extremely big, I see what you miss out not even knowing other guys.
For example Cypress was really impressive, as they have FPGA-like thing along with MCU, so the chip can do a lot of things in hardware and you program it using blocks like in simulink.
