Programming Atmel AT89S8253

Hi,

I'm having trouble reading not speaking of programming this uCU.
Would someone who has actually programmed this chip give some advice how they did it? Methods tried so far:
1/ Avrdude (Avrdudess GUI, added 8253 definition in the CONF file) and Pickit2 (supported by Avrdude)
2/ PonyProg via the COM port with the serial setup recommended.
