Programming with Microchip ICD3 vs PICkit 3
« on: November 20, 2014, 11:03:29 am »
Hi Guys,

I'm currently running into some issues with programming a PIC24FJ256DA210 using a PICkit 3. Usually this device is programmed with a ICD3 but I am unable to use an ICD at the moment.

Are there any settings that need to be changed in order for the same .hex file to be programmed to the device with the PICkit 3?

Any pointers are appreciated :)

Need a bit more info to really help.  What program are you using (MPLABX, MPLAB v8, etc...).

Been programming various PIC24s with PK3 for some time , only issue is an occasional MPLABX 2.20 ... PK3 not found , what is your "issue "

I am sure what those "issues" are have nothing to do with the solutions needed to resolve such issues.

Or they are top secrete.

The only setting I may ever chamge is to have the pickit3/icd supply voltage to the device or not.

apart from that I have no issues swapping between the ICD3 and the pickit3. (I use the ICD3 rj11 to ICSP header board so swapping between the two is easy)

If its the pk3 not found thing, I often have the same with pk3, not with icd3, totally different drivers or something, the drivers for icd3 is not giving problems, but with pk3 you have to run mplabx elevated, such crap..
Reported it to microchip for some time ago, but not sure if they do anything about it.
