rgb + composite sync aka rgb-s, looking for documentation
« on: November 24, 2014, 02:34:06 am »
hi guys
i am planning to interface an RGB-S monitor like the SONY PSone-LCD to an fpga in order to emulate a game-console.
I have google a lot without finding useful information about the timing, the polarity, and such a stuff about RGB-s

any one has documentation about it ?

basically i already have an fpga with a working VGA interface, and i am also considering to build up an adapter like this

vga 2 rgb-s

let me know, thanks  :-+

what is the reason of the xor port (and its RC cell) in the schematic above ?

the link is about how to mod a console, i need information about the PAL timing, i need documentation in order to implement something in fpga to directly interface an RGB-S LCD

also, anybody know why in this schema there are xor gates + RC ? it's not clear to me

 :palm:

you asked about composite sync, so I linked you more info, this circuit adds both signals
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_video_sync

pal timing is just pal timing, same as in composite video signal

Composite sync is a combination of horizontal sync (short, frequent pulses) and vertical sync (much less frequent, much longer pulses.)  HSYNC pulses still occur during the VSYNC, and are inverted wrt the current state of the combined sync.
Aside from getting things to the appropriate polarity, and apparently some pulse shaping/limiting, that's what the XOR in the diagram is doing.
