After having no success trying to get a Minipro TL866 to program a 128 Mbit SPANSION S25FL127S flash chip, my "Plan B" turned up today...from eBay...a SOFI SP16 programmer from www.sofi-tech.com and it worked a treat :)

The web site is in Chinese (not a problem with Google Translate) and the programmer software (FlyPro) was in English by default. So far it's fine.
