Why are you on such an old operating system?

I've ran STVD on several Windows 10 computers without any issues (other than it being, you know... STVD).

because it still works, I don't want to change and I haven't won at the lottery yet...

I found out the answer though :

https://community.st.com/thread/45768-st-visual-developer-says-out-of-memory-and-crashes-when-trying-to-launch-the-programming-tool

apparently the installer comes with a file that makes the thing crash :palm: (on Win7 anyway).

I change the file for the one given in this thread. Seems to have fixed the problem.

I also have this problem, but I'm on Windows 11.

This time, it's not the same error as "Out of Memory" which is discussed on the ST forums.

This gives NO WARNING and NO ERROR MESSAGE. It just completely gets killed.

ST Visual Programmer does work as a standalone program, which is interesting.

I did also try updating the firmware on the ST-LINK V2 I have to the latest. Still a problem.

ST Link-V2 shows up correctly in Device Manager.

Any other ideas? Anyone else seen this and found the workaround?

For a company that sells literally BILLIONS of STM8s, I would think they'd be much better at supporting and updating and maintaining these tools which are somewhat horribly archaic...

Maybe try older versions? Found few over internet, uploaded them here:

I solved this problem by completely wiping and then reinstalling the software all to a non "Program Files" path, with path permissions set to be more relaxed (Windows XP style) and then making sure all my environment variables were set for the new path in C:\DevTools\... etc.

Just a breadcrumb for those who may follow.
