STM32 with lwip and cubemx

Anyone have a good example? I am trying to make sense of this from the examples ST gives, but they give little guidance. Do you send data with just the lwip commands? I am confused on how it relates to the

ethernetif_input(&gnetif);

function that it leaves for you.
