Up to date componnent for mcu (sensor, communication...)

I am looking to get some nice component, but i still get on thread and blog that still talk about that 5 year old part... common, i am sure there are newer, easier, better, cheaper part these day.

What up to date part are you now using, and which old school part does it replace?

For example, what shall be now the de facto for Bluetooth to replace those old HC05?

This thread is about to discover nice new part to replace part that everyone use because everyone find them in lot of outdated tutorial.

Wifi? Ethernet? Bluetooth? Temperature sensor? Can? Led driver? ....... Nice cheap display better than the nokia?

Something better and cheap to replace those lm7805? Nice transistor? Nice RTC?
