Where to order a Cypress PSoC dev board
« on: July 28, 2016, 01:53:36 pm »
I am curious about messing around with a Cypress PSoC dev/demo board.  The current one is CY8CKIT-044 priced at $US25 from Cypress.
The problem is that Cypress wants an additional $25 to ship it.  I found the same board on Mouser where I can get it shipped for free as part of a larger order.  When I am ready to pull the trigger on a larger order, I'll throw it in.  But if there other online vendors I should look at to get a lower international shipping cost on it I could order one straight away.  Any place I should look into?

One thing that the majority of US semiconductors companies didn't realize, is that for people outside USA freight and customs are significant. They Like to use Fedex and DHL, but this is not the best option. in several countries it's a no go way.

If I'm the marketing director , I will arrange a deal with some Chinese dealer and send everything from there, china or Hkd International post.

It's cheaper to send something from China than ship something 10 blocks away from where you are.

This is whyt you can buy something from ebay or alyexpress and pay USD 0.80 worldwide including freight

Will be amazing to buy from Cypress, Mouse and many other suing that, I  hope they realize that at some point

Well, you should first try to do that before talking :) Especially when all the paperwork kicks in.

And lost parcels.
The reason most companies use private couriers is because depending on the destination common public services can be a nightmare, and offering that as a cheaper option always falls back on you to deal with when the recipient has an issue. Don't want to risk having to deal with the hassle? Send via courier and bill the customer.
Serious customers who are likely to make decent purchases from you understand that just as well and know why they pay what they pay for shipping anyway.

So yeah by doing that you'll just get a few hobbyist customers who want to save $5 on shipping, not companies who will place a $20k order.

A 20k order , must be a sample or development board, prior to be a 20K order.

Of course I'm not talking about fortune 500 reality,

I buy near daily from china via post mail, and believe or not , the lost rate is less than 1 in 300

'course.  But I'm in Canada and lots of vendors have Canadian fulfillment or the ability to use USPS+CanadaPost.  Robotshop and SparkFun seem able to send me cheap electronical googaws without excessive shipping costs, so I know it can be done.  Mouser will be fine for me, especially since the shipping cost can be spread across a number of items that I need and they have Canadian fulfillment.

Couriers are awkward for a number of reasons beyond cost.  They often introduce complex cross-border issues that don't occur with postal services.  I simply will not buy something that has to be sent via UPS, for example, due to their extra customs complexity and charges.  Generally I need depot pickup and the courier depots are on the other side of the city versus the CanadaPost one nearest me that is four blocks from my home.

This is my experience too, sort of.  I bought one of those  Mini Pro TL866 programmers from Amazon.  It turns out it was being fulfilled from China -- no surprise -- but it took more than TWO MONTHS to show up.  When it did, it was postmarked from Laos, of all places.  Nevertheless, it *eventually* did arrive.

I had some luck and got free shipping once ago.
I downloaded some pdf's about the psoc chips I had interest in.
you have to register to get them.
then some days later , you receive a mail from some cypress representative, asking if you have some questions about your downloads, if they can help.
I answered that I would like to buy a psoc dev board to try them, but that the shipping where too expensive.
he gave me a coupon for free shipping ...
