And just to test it...

What am I missing? When I click on the thumbnail I still get a giant image with scroll bars?

I can still make a 10000x10000 image that is under 1MB in size... if we were to restrict on dimensions it would better fix this, but it would also prevent high quality uploads of schematics, etc.. for this forum, limiting the dimensions of images just wont work very well at all.

File size limits mean you just need to use Flickr and post the BBCode in to the forum....
If I were you, I will not put my faith too much and too long for my images on Flickr .... <click> ... and many-many more similar examples.  ;)
