We have decided that because of the great deal of issues experienced, to resolve the situation as fast as possible is the best course of action.

I am coming to the conclusion that "cloud" computing has successfully modeled the atmosphere.

Just as in the real world, clouds appear and disappear depending upon whether conditions are favourable.

This immediately made me think of what it would be like to have an internet weather radar.  :o

the cloud seems to be quite stable here. just a few moments dissapearing.

It all seems pretty stable to me now.
I did get an automated report saying it went down for two minutes today though.
I just renewed my old host for another year "just in case"!

This prompted me to have a look at one of the cloud providers, I had no idea that cloud hosting was so cheap*
It's about half what I pay for an oversubscribed, shared server with average performance.

*Although given the problems here, perhaps it's still overpriced.

I paid for a bigger plan with more "compute cycles" than sitecloud are now offering. They now only have one plan at $4.95 / month. Maybe I should ask for the difference back...

My old hostmonster.com account was more expensive than sitecloud, but it was a normal shared server and did get slow sometimes. It also had limitations in terms of number of files stored. I was fearful it would eventually not handle the ever growing load with all the video and audio downloads, forum etc, especially if I got slashdotted or otherwise went semi-viral on a video.
So the move to a "cloud" based sever was a strategic one.

Sitecloud have a lot of promise, their problem is they are new and have had a lot of teething problems.
They are a big company though, it is a spinoff from Greengeeks:
http://www.greengeeks.com/

So I'm trusting it will ultimately get better.

Dave.

I haven't forgotten when freehostia "upgraded" their servers or rather moved the datacentre, promising emails would be unaffected but the website might go. I had websites running all the time and no email for over a week, naturally I promptly left

While I haven't had any real performance issues with my existing hosting, I'm tempted to move at least one domain over to sitecloud.com so I can nod knowingly  when someone starts talking about cloud computing and say 'I've got one of them!'   :)
