Server problems - Update
« on: September 15, 2010, 12:17:54 am »
The huge cluster-!@#$ with the database Error 28 things has been resolved. Sitecloud still would not tell me what went wrong.
The 503 Error message thing looks to have been temporarily fixed, quote:

"I apologize for the issues you've been facing. We're aware of the issue. This is a bug with Amazon and our implementation. We're working with them to resolve these frequent outages. We are very close to nailing it down and appreciate your patience."

"This is also to let you know that the issue has been resolved, however, we're still working on nailing down the root issue that is causing this. Once again, we apologize for this and we hope to have this issue resolved in a few days as we work endlessly with Amazon."

Will keep you posted.
If they can fix the 503 problem permanently then things should be ok.

Dave.

Another response after I complained again.

"We're aware of an issue between Amazon and our implementation. We're working with Amazon to resolve the issue. We are close to nailing down the issue and expect it to be resolved permanently this weekend. Our administrators are working around the clock to resolve this issue, we don't want it around as much as you don't.

We apologize and ask for your patience while we work to resolve this known issue/bug."

Probably affecting all their customers now, so I'll stop pestering them and give them to this weekend.
Expect more outages until it's resolved, sorry, nothing I can do.

Dave.

Yesh, last time I recommend them.  Even their blog is 503.  I kind of doubt the claim that its amazon's screwup.  Haven't heard of and big downtimes of EC2 lately.  Sound more like sitecloud has a big bug in their management software or they just haven't been buying large enough instances.

They admit it's a bug in their implementation that works with Amazon. So yeah, not Amazon's fault.

I hope they get it fixed, I don't want to have to move hosts again.
Well, I guess they have to get it fixed or they will be out of business. I'm sure every one of their customers is being affected in the same way. They are a big group, owned and operated by GreenGeeks.com supposedly.

why should an issue with amazon (what's the connection ? do they host amazon ?) be everyone's problem ? and personally I don't see their response as very professional. We have been plagued with this for weeks and any decent host would get right onto it's customers and tell them there is a known issue and that they are working on it. At least then your not in the dark wondering when it will ever end.

I used freehostia once upon a time, they did great free accounts and very good cheap hosting accounts, then they moved server centre assuring us that emails would be fine but that some websites would be down at times: completely the opposite, my website worked every time and may emails were out for 2 weeks, I will never trust a host again, needless to say i left them.

The problem is with SiteCloud's implementation/configuration that ties into the Amazon cloud and gives me a standard web host Cpanel interface etc.
I have no ideas of the actual details, they won't tell me other than it's a bug they are taking very seriously, and I am almost certain it's affecting all of their customers not just me.

Then surely it's still Amazon's fault, although Sitecloud still have to take responsibility for it: if Amazon are providing a poor quality service they should look elsewhere.

No, it appears as though Sitecloud have written/tweaked their own server (or whatever) software to work with the Amazon cloud, and it has bugs. They essentially said as much.

Amazon is well known as pretty much the world's biggest and most reliable wholesale "cloud" solution.
