Where do I set the number of times I have been thanked?

I'd have much preferred to see it anonymous so as to remove the incentive to see one's "name in lights" and also to not have the thanks count so constantly visible. That would make the thanks a little more selfless and given strictly to benefit others.
Well, yes. We have this system now. It is called PM and believe it or not, I've been thanked that way and it is totally fine with me, since it does not encourage mutual public ego stroking.

I also have suspicion that number of thanks may be suggested (or actually used) as a way to gage "contribution" in future giveaways. That would suck big time and I really hope it does not come to that.

You don't, but now you have 1.  Enjoy :)

You seem to think you're f***** good with predicting future. Don't you think you're in the wrong business, perhaps?

That can be turned off.

A single click thumb is much easier to do than a PM. I think it's a nice way to show appreciation for a post that had a lot of work put into it and/or was helpful to someone.

Wrong.
I cannot even get a list of members by how many Thanks they have. The option to display the number of thanks in people's profiles can be turned off.

Why are you doing that ataradov?
Why not? I'm thankful to everyone for participating in this forum :)
The feature is pretty stupid and pointless. And there are no rules against being polite and thanking everyone, are there?

Yes, abuse the system to make a point and you'll get banned.
You've made your point, now don't abuse the system and ruin it for everyone else please.

It may be possible to set a limit on the number to thanks a user can give in a day.

A single click thumb is much easier to do than a PM.
And that's my problem with it. It totally devalues the thing. If I get a PM thanking me, I know that person made an actual effort. There are fewer of them, of course, but their value if much higher.

Wrong.
I cannot even get a list of members by how many Thanks they have.
That's good to know. But part of previous giveaways was manual examination of the profile of a selected person. And someone with no Thanks may not make the cut. I'm mostly playing devil's advocate here, of course, but still something to consider.

The option to display the number of thanks in people's profiles can be turned off.
I'd be fine with it, if it was visible only to a person being thanked. That absolutely eliminates any reason to cheat and compete on pointless counters.

Thanks counter disabled. More more potential pissing contests. Happy now?

Just in case anyone else does not like this, here are two AdBlock rules that return things back to the old state:
Code: [Select]
eevblog.com##div.thanks.smalltext
eevblog.com##li.thank_you_button

I'm fine with the change now, sorry if I have offended anyone.

I've found the like feature useful in other forums. When you hit a comment with a ton of likes, it's often the one ones looking for (good answer to a question) or worth a read during quick scanning. Also it's nice to see if some thought a comment was useful in someway.

Only suggestion would be, if possible, to reduce the boldness or whatever of the "The following users thanked this post" font to maybe a lighter color or something, I'm finding it's drawing my eyes away from the body of the post a bit. Just a thought though, might be just me.

Sure, but even if I don't use, others do and it creates more visual noise on the page and distracts from the actual post. I don't need more noise in my life, so AdBlock to the rescue :)

:palm: just read this thread, you just can't please everyone... If you don't like it don't use it but if you appreciate someones post, why not? As for comments on visual noise, jeez get a life....

I have to scroll enough even without seeing who thanked the post. I dont like it. It is not relevant information, takes up screen space. And yes, being bold makes it distracting.

This is working. Never mind, carry on.

I think the bold helps with visual ID of potentially interesting and worthy posts.

But you're not doing it because you want to thank the posters, you're using it to protest...because you think it is pointless.

Why not take a deep breath and move on? :)

Ah! That explains the funny message I saw the other day on my phone (Google Chrome browser on Android).

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

Oh, the HORROR!   It's Facebook all over again.  I checked every day for someone to
Like me. Truth is, many posters wouldn't know a good answer if it bit them in the ass-
embler. Can't take this stress.  No one will even respond to my posts on MJLorton.

Just found something strange in regards to thanked posts, my forum profile indicates that I've been thanked 8 times yet when the list of thanked posts is displayed I count only 7, the only thing I can think of is that yesterday I notified moderators of single vandal/ graffiti/ idiot thread in which I posted "Moderator Notified" text, perhaps somebody thanked me and then the thread got nuked, not a big deal really and just a heads up.

I get few accolades elsewhere and her indoors just chucks stuff..... :phew:
