I participate in a local OSH meetup group. It has almost 300 members, but there are no dues, and only about 15 ever attend meetings. I wondered if having a group reflow oven might be a good idea, and a good project to work on. It looks like this could be built for under $100, and the first test of interest would be if enough people wanted to contribute $10 to pay for it in the first place.
While I think it would be a nice thing to have available, we would have to decide on usage rules, like do you have to go to someone's house to use it, or do you pick it up and bring it back a day later, or what.
Anyway, I would like to know if anyone here has actual experience dealing with something like this in a group setting, and if so, how well it works. I also wonder about any liability issues that might be involved (anytime something plugs into mains, I worry about that).
