Electrical Consumer Products and UK regulations
« on: August 11, 2015, 03:31:29 pm »
Hi Everyone

Can someone with more experience in business than me help guide me about what is the best route to place a consumer product on the market without getting wrapped up in lots of red-tape and legalities to do with product liability insurance etc.

I am told by our compliance guy that I can design and manufacture this electrical product and sell it to the consumer, I am required to self certify the CE  Mark and to keep a comprehensive technical file that may be inspected by the authorities that shows that due diligence has been carried out through the product full design cycle and complies with The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994.

EMC, electrical safety and hazardous materials.

You'll need to EMC test it at an approved test house and you'll also need product liability insurance.

Have a read through the recent threads that Andy has linked to and then ask any more specific questions you have.
