megadesk - IKEA Bekant Controller
« on: May 12, 2018, 01:48:24 pm »
There's a few tidbits about this around the internet, and a few of those posts are on EEVBlog as well.

I've created a custom controller for the IKEA Bekant motorized standing desk. It adds memory functionality, with (practically) unlimited memory options.

The PCB fits in the original enclosure and uses the original hardware where possible, so it's not very intrusive and can be easily reversed. The hardest part of the project was reverse-engineering the startup handshake to the motors. Without that, the motors would not respond to any commands.

I hope some of you find it useful! The only hardware improvement I would potentially look into is a DC Buck for the power, but the price is a bit high to pull that off. The source DC can hit 37V, so filtering IC's that can source 40V and turn it into 12V reveals some expensive IC's in low quantity. That, and the additional components - I don't think it's worth it.
