Xenon Electric bulb driver circuit
« on: February 06, 2019, 09:09:12 am »
there,

I am interested to electric bulb driver used in street lighting or any suitable area.

Need to know how this circuit can work.
Take a look the circuit in first attachment.

1. 220 V ac has feed to 2 diode that could pick positive half cycle.
2. On the junction point what the yellow componet does, is it a capacitor ? Using for discharging ?
3. Whats the choke is doing here, looks it comes from bulb surface.
4. Capacitor 330nF and SCR K1400E is triggering the negative part of this bulb?

5. Does 460k, 1M ohm POT and 1.8 Mohm resistor parallel to bulb is maintaning current or voltage.
6. Not sure other yellow component is doing here?

Lets discuss together to learn more for further development.

A picture of the bulb +  closeup of any writing on its base or envelope would help. I suspect its a discharge lamp and the choke drives a trigger electrode.

The red and yellow components in you picture are capacitors.
The blue one looks like an HV pulse generator transformer, as found in photo flashlights to trigger the xenon discharge tube.
The small three-pin device most probably is a small thyristor or similar.

So from the little information given, I'd guess this is some circuitry to trigger a discharge bulb by means of high voltage pulses.

Nice feedback
Does this circuit totally correct?

High voltage pulses are generating from trigger tramsformer. Somehow oscillation is produced.
Red capacitor is helping during negative half cycle of AC source. POTS and resistors are using for speed up or down the light bulb.

Something must be wrong with your circuit. I can't find a reasonable path of current to the lamp.

Is this a strobe light as used in a discotheque?

It looks like the igniter for a HPS or pulse start MH lamp, however if that's the case there also needs to be a ballast choke.

I have found one in internet, that can give us clear idea what mistake is done here.

Need to consider capacitor charging path through a resistor and discharging through triggering transformer.
