See "USB Bit Whacker"
But it might be easier to figure out what went wrong with your pinguino...

I checked it out but it was for pic18f2550. The pic18f4550 has more I/O.

I was planning to do pic18f4550 based arduino. i have tested pinguino but i don't get it to work.

What doesn't work? e.g.
  • You can't install the software
  • The software does not compile
  • After programming the bootloader on to the device you can't program the device
  • You can compile programs and program the device through the bootloader however the programs do not run as expected

I checked it out but it was for pic18f2550. The pic18f4550 has more I/O.
The pic18f2550 and pic18f4550 share the same datasheet and are BOTH supported by pinguino. e.g. http://wiki.pinguino.cc/index.php/PIC18F4550_Pinguino

The problem with pinguino is that I can't upload software to the board via pinguino ide.

Have you programmed the pic18f4550 with the pinguino bootloader?

but [usb bit whacker] was for pic18f2550
It apparently also works for the 4550, although the DIP board didn't get to production:

Don't create another -duino. There's enough of them.
I love the smell of FR4 in the morning!

Just put empty PIC and another uC to act as SPI programer. Much easier to do and you wont use more memory than is needed.

I built a Chipino, it doesn't have USB though.
