Single Multilayer PCB productions at PCB House.... Can I?
« on: April 29, 2015, 06:05:58 am »
I live in New Zealand and I have found a PCB Board that I want but it is difficult and expensive to get from a company that produces it in the UK.

They have put the KiCad files on github.  It is a 4 layer PCB so I can't make it at home.  Can I legally have a single copy made at a professional PCB house?

Why shouldn't you? I don't know British or New Zealand law, but as long as they published the CAD-Files and you won't sell the PCB to someone else, there shouldn't be a problem. Maybe you could ask the designer, if you want to be sure.

If it is open source, and license dependant blah blah blah, as long as you retain all author credit (which you should do anyway), then I can't see why you wouldn't be able to get one made.

And yeah, even if you decide to take their name off and put your's on (not the done thing btw) then just don't tell anyone!

I wouldn't worry about a single board for self use.

Large quantities or selling them is a different story.

Read the licence that goes with it. All else is speculation.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
