awesome list!

She hasn't posted in 3 years but her back catalog is still excellent to watch.

Perhaps it's best to stick to just electronics related youtube channels here?
Another thread can have machining, science, or whatever.
I've also changed the title, moved to Other Blogs, and made it sticky.

How can you include RODALCO2007 but not photonicinduction?!

On a serious note, an excellent idea.

The list is already long. It might be worthwhile creating some categories. like Commercial, Education (MIT, Carnegie Mellon etc) or Electronics (mostly) and if you want to keep Veritasium or Techmoan then a category Of Nerd Interest for example.

I'm very happy to see of other lists of technology/science/engineering/embedded/whatever related channel on here and make those threads sticky as well.
After all, that's the whole point of this board, to showcase other blogs and channels.

Not sure about culling - but I do agree with some form of categorisation.

I might also be interested in a two line summary of each channel's general style of content - but I concede that this might be a bit too much to ask.

Are we just sticking to English content producers?, Should we include a few Non-English Youtubers as well?, We could include another column to state the language if required, I do watch quite a few of these and still learn the odd tip here and there.

This Russian fellow is a good example, he recently uploaded over four and a half hours of video just comparing Dave's BM-235 with a couple of other meters, well drawn out but some bits were otherwise worthwhile, he seems to have a pretty good following guided by the comments section, one of many I suspect.

What I used to do for long list info on forums

Start a new topic  >> Post 5 or 6 messages directly after in the new thread (place holder or reserved for content) Then I had the space needed for the info I wanted to add. I asked those in charge to unsticky the old list and sticky the new thread with my reserved space. All in effort to be helpful to the community then. Not this one, another one. :)

That is what I used to do, it worked well.
Title: Re: List Of Electronics Youtubers

With a big list, I think a 1-line description or list of typical subjects would be very helpful. Probably better than categories as it requires less work, and is more flexible

Works great - thanks
Did you type in every line?
Absolutely not.  Dropped it into Excel, split it into two columns and just concatenated with the table markup code.

A suggestion for shortening....

It takes out the common https://www.youtube.com/ from the displayed URL - but the link behind it is still complete.  Saves 24 characters per entry.

A left field idea....

Start another thread and let the Maintainer put up the first 10 posts ... or 20 posts ... and they can then work across these at their leisure.

Anybody posting before those posts have been secured will be boiled in oil and dispatched with all haste.  The intrusive posts will, of course, be removed.

This guy does long format vintage TV and radio repair and restoration. It's a bit slow if you're looking for quick info, but I generally learn something and it's a great way to burn up 20 minutes if you might have been bored or, worse, considering commercial TV.

and into vintage radio/TV restoration.

Thanks I wished I had more members names for the list.
More will come, those are just a few that I plainly recognized. You've done very well in less than a fortnight.......but who could resist such a pretty face.  :)

This list is a great idea, thank you ez24!

Apart from the YouTube channels, there are some good blogs but without much video. Do you think the list can be extended with the most known blogs too?

There's already a reasonable list of blogs in Daves Wiki:
http://www.eevblog.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page (http://www.eevblog.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page)

EZ is running short of characters in the OP so this might be best in another sticky if one is needed at all.

It is a shame you can't have someone to help maintain the list.

Ha ha this is funny  :-DD -  read my other comment - seems there is only one member who could help with the 20k limit   hint hint

Post limit changed to 50,000

1) User Kosine gave an example vid on reverse breakdown of LED's here:
https://www.youtube.com/user/ThingsWhichArentWork (https://www.youtube.com/user/ThingsWhichArentWork)
Turns out, this well done channel has over 100 vids from 1 to 24 months old.

2) The above channel refers to NERDville who seems to have a shop (and an obsession with mountains of 18650 batteries)
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp4M48d5yNW0hFk71yejeVw (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp4M48d5yNW0hFk71yejeVw)
He's got 22 vids in just 2 months, so we'll see where it goes (if it fades, we can toss it when list entries get too high?)

Not so strange really.  Dave has the Youtube plugin installed here.  It takes a link it can resolve to a particular Youtube video and wraps code around it to give you an imbedded video result.

This only happens when you view a thread - not when you preview a post.

About 6 months ago I separated all my electronics videos from my personal youtube account and made a new only for http://www.kaizerpowerelectronics.dk (http://www.kaizerpowerelectronics.dk) related videos, projects, tear downs etc.

300+ subs and about 100 videos so far: https://www.youtube.com/c/KaizerPowerElectronicsDk60 (https://www.youtube.com/c/KaizerPowerElectronicsDk60)

Hello everyone.

I am kinda new to the hobby of Electronics, been meaning to get started for a while, and now my children are more grown up i have the chance. Finally have my Electronics lab setup and enjoy learning and having fun with circuits, equipment and projects.

It's great to see so many YouTube channels devoted to Electronics these days, good news for the hobby and community.

So let me introduce my new channel, and wish everyone success with theirs  :-+ :-+

I recently started a channel on YouTube, which is mostly about repairing test equipment, at this point. It will eventually branch out into two way, amateur and CB radio repair, as well as vintage computers and other electronics related areas.  Please check it out!

Thanks duly subbed, but no surprise here.
Stats show Oct@1k, Dec@63k, then Jan@11k... (Was that when YT started disabling subs without alerts??)
I'm no YT expert, but of the 53 video's posted, less than half existed around the time we put the list together.

Wow there are a ton of amazing channels in this list!

I'm not sure if my channel qualifies for listing yet, it is still very small, but I think I have the required minimum of 10 electronics based videos (though I guess that depends on how electronics based videos are defined).

Tinkering With Terrius:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb2TKgbMDbyYpcx6GU1AHEg (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb2TKgbMDbyYpcx6GU1AHEg)

My channel is mostly a Vlog that is documenting my journey into hobby electronics, lately it has been a lot of kit builds and sometimes mail bag/post bag type videos, I hope to do a few tear downs once my pile of broken electronics builds up a bit. I am also planning to start working on some projects in the near future.

I usually post a new video every Thursday, occasionally I will post a bonus episode on other days which is occasionally electronics based or other times the bonus will be gaming or baking related (entirely for my own amusement).

I create videos for fun and I plan to continue for the foreseeable future, basically as long as somebody out there is watching my videos I will keep on making them! I find the analytics data especially interesting on YouTube and it often boggles my mind to see that my videos get watched on the other side of the globe.

I've stripped out the code for the table and dropped it into an Excel spreadsheet.

Do you have access to Excel?  If so, I can sort out the spreadsheet to make it much easier to manage.

As for passing on the baton - I'm not sure what to suggest, since the post is under your Id.

Here's the spreadsheet.

Maintain information on DATA tab, then go to the BBCODE tab and just copy all the visible cells and paste into a post.

The formula on the BBCODE tab has been set up for 2000 rows, which I would think is more than enough.  However, it can be extended if necessary by simply copying down.

EDIT: I have removed this version of the spreadsheet as I have a better version further down...

I can update and post in the thread (like I did with my test above) and if ez24 comes along, then they can just copy the code from a "QUOTE" action and dump it in the original post.

I hope I do not have to export and edit and import.

I've set it up so that you make changes in the spreadsheet and save it on your computer for next time.

All you have to do to get the result into the post is to do a single copy and paste.

And don't worry about the "latest version" being held on your private computer out of our reach ... it will be posted here and easily extracted if need be.

Brumby :

Can you add the header and footer to the spreadsheet.    In the spreadsheet (BBCODE) I hit  CT-A then CT-C   but I do not know where to paste in the original.  I want to be able to CT-A in the original and hit delete to delete the whole thing.  Then paste all of the spreadsheet into the text editor.  I hope it is not too much trouble.

thanks

That will work.     :)

I did have fun putting header/footer ideas together.  I had the process pretty much sorted, but it's easier the way you have done it.

I'd set the formulae out for 2000 rows - just to make sure you wouldn't run out.  ;D

I'm thinking we should pull this YT thing into two lists. ??
1)
Private hobbyist channels
2) Corporate Electronics channels
(with special "store fronts" like the Ben Heck Show placed above an alphabetic list of product channels and for simplicity, no need for comments or subscriber counts)

Further reduction could come from elimination of the member column, while making the member-name (in bold) the first characters in the comments column. ??

This would save a lot of time (making and copying links).  I wonder if Brumby could automate this conversion (he can work magic with Excel)?  This also would allow longer comments for none members if the member column is eliminated.

I am not keen on splitting up the list.  But I would like to know more about Corporate Electronics channels.  I am not sure I could pick them out.  It is possible they could go to the top of the list?  Avoiding comments or counts would make updates easier.

What I would like to see is a way to add in comments from members.  The only way I see this is it would be a cloud based system.  This way several members could maintain it.   I think I put this idea out there before but only one comment came in and it was No.

No problem reorganising the list - but I would like to clarify:  Do you want to keep or drop the link to the member profile?

It's easy enough to keep - but your comment infers not doing it any more.
Title: Re: List Of Electronics Youtubers

Dropping it is preferred if all agree.. Only about 30 members host channels anyway, and if just the member-name is bold as the first text in the comments, it should be enough. Those curious can look-up the member if the need arises..

Yes, new electronic videos are posted on "Hill's Workbench", as well as any made in the last three years. There still are about four earlier years of electronics videos on the original channel, "HillOrStreams" Unfortunately, YouTube does not give us any easy way to move content from one channel to another. And I made a critical mistake in trying to move my most popular content to a different channel, I should have moved everything else instead. I also duplicated some videos on both channels around the transition, and a series on ATtiny/Arduino, which apparently is a no-no and sort of blacklisted those videos from search.
So all this has greatly stunted this channel but at this point, I'm just trying to grow out of it rather than start a whole new seachange. I do have two other tiny channels but they have no content about electronics. HillOrStreams does have a lot of electronics videos but they are several pages back now, so mostly found via searches, so yeah, no need to list HillOrStream Thanks for stopping by!

Yes, new electronic videos are posted on "Hill's Workbench", as well as any made in the last three years.

A quick look shows that Hill's Workbench is not listed ?  If you do not mind I will list it when the list is updated.   Since you wrote a long response maybe you are open to an idea I have.   I like Playlists and have thought to include them.

You only have one playlist and that is your Liked videos.  Can you make a few categories for Playlists for your videos ?

Now that I have more room in the list, I am thinking of adding a section that indicates if there are playlists.  If you like I could work on the names of the Playlists with you.  FYI I only download playlists so playlists are important to me and they are the first thing I look at when I look at a new channel.   A lot of times I think that if the person does not care to make Playlists they are not serious about content so I move on.

What do you think?  Are you willing to make some?

Brumby:

I would have a column named "Playlists"  and for each line I would write Yes or No  , so not much space is needed.  I would like to place it right before comments.   It might take me a year to fill in the column ha ha ha    If I were new to the list, I would look at videos that had playlists first.

Once you are done with the changes, you need to Lock it down and send it to me so I can upload it.  I suggest you take down the previous samples.  I like the Bold version.

Maybe to save space it could be written like this:

Play
Lists

instead of

Playlists

This would save 4 characters in each line  (I have to pinch every character)

Can you make me a new Playlist column ?

Thanks
Roger

I'm going through EEV members first...

Hi Cliff

I am not 100% sure on what is going on here.  Are you adding this data to the spreadsheet?  Your links go to the Videos page.  When I started this, I linked to the Home page to shorten the link (character space).   Now I am not sure if there will be a space problem or not.  Dave increased the size from 10k to 60k and right now it is running about 40k.  So I do not think space is a problem anymore.  If and when I start the Playlist thing, I will link to the Playlist page.  If you are editing the sheet, could you add in the Yes or No under Playlist and link to the Playlist page.  If not that is OK, I will.  I just thought that since you might be adding links you could add in Playlist.  If so get the new sheet from Brumby that has the new Playlist column.

Thanks

Brumby:  can you somehow come up with a version control system?   Seems that there are three of us working on this.     FYI - I am not touching this for now.  Do you have a sample of the Playlist version?

Another question.  When a change is made to the sheet, how will it be done?  In this case it seems you are taking the data directly from the forum and converting it into a spreadsheet and then will send it to me (then I will have another copy of the spreadsheet).  The other way is for me to send you my copy of the spreadsheet.  I guess it depends on the work involved in going from HTML to XLS to ODS.  Before you start sending everyone a copy put a serial number or date and time code in it.  That way I will confirm that I have the correct version when it gets uploaded.  Since I do not have Excel, it might be better that you import the data directly to keep it as clean as possible.

If you do add something to track with, try and add it in the table section.  That is the part that I copy when I upload a change.  If outside the table it might get lost.  Maybe in the last cell in the comment section right after the last comment (not row 1999)?  A date and time code might work.

Maybe someone reading this who has version control experience can weigh in on this.

thanks
Roger

I will also close access to my YT profile (sharing my subscriptions) and delete a few posts to subtract from a few streams of confusion here.

As for linking directly to the 24-digit channel_id/videos vs. Username/videos, there are a few things going on so let me explain. AFAIK, channel-id's are permanent but a user-name can be changed on channel's with over 100 subscribers (it can grow to over 24 digits too). Linking to a channel playlist's is fine, but these don't always link to video's produced on that channel. (I originally mentioned playlists specifically for channel with mixed content). Since playlists require authors to do channel work to keep actualized, many channel's fall quickly out-of-date, looking sloppy and this gives visitors a dated view hiding gems that may be on that channel (yes visitors can click on video's, but some want it served quick on a silver platter).

Another irritating thing I find about landing on the main page of a channel, is listening over-and-over to some (hope I don't offend..) tactless, plosive and dated channel trailer, seeing the same stuff because the user is too busy making great video's and seldom takes time to update the main page. I'd rather land on the video's page 10-to-1 since by default it shows more thumbnails per page and the newest video's first. There are search arguments for mixed content channels not producing their own topical playlists, and this is an alternative to playlists, but we talked about that before. (eg: I like Cody'sLab as a channel, but it's not applicable here. However, if I wanted to fish video's with sparse electronics content, we could use arguments like https://www.youtube.com/user/theCodyReeder/search?query=electronics|arduino|relay (https://www.youtube.com/user/theCodyReeder/search?query=electronics|arduino|relay) ).

(**edit) About me putting-in channel-id's and not names: Would you believe I'm not? (well not really) I'm getting all the URL's produced from my "subscriptions > see all" list in grid-view. That's how YouTube does it, but to save space you can use the channel name (where they exist..).

Brumby, I am looking for a way for maintainers to quickly get a list of subscriber counts for these channels. I asked the question here (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/blog/eevblog-998-how-to-program-esp8266-wifi-with-arduino/msg1225821/#msg1225821) about it, but for now there's no reply.

Perhaps in the spreadsheet, you could derive a URL any maintainer could click on to get a subscriber count. Here's two examples with channel-id or channel-name:
1)
joe smith      https://socialblade.com/youtube/channel/UCsK99WXk9VhcghnAauTBsbg/realtime (https://socialblade.com/youtube/channel/UCsK99WXk9VhcghnAauTBsbg/realtime)
2)
w2aew          https://socialblade.com/youtube/user/w2aew/realtime (https://socialblade.com/youtube/user/w2aew/realtime)
w2aew          https://socialblade.com/youtube/channel/UCiqd3GLTluk2s_IBt7p_LjA/realtime (https://socialblade.com/youtube/channel/UCiqd3GLTluk2s_IBt7p_LjA/realtime)

(*edit  Above, referring to w2aew's channel by its unchanging ID is 22 letters longer than its name)

Why create this on the sheet? It allows regular delegation of a more menial task (and I wouldn't mind helping out) while at the same time spotting any channel problems. (nothing more than click, read, alt-tab, update, a few hundred times.. all good fun in the life of someone wanting to help others..).

The spreadsheet was meant to make the job of maintaining the data much easier.  It separated out the information of interest from the BBCODE used to lay out the table.  One worksheet had the data in simple row and column format and the second has all the formulae to create finished BBCODE - which you could just copy and paste into the forum post.

The original process I started with did, indeed, use the forum table in the first post as input.  After the first manual efforts, I set up another spreadsheet that allowed me to dump the BBCODE in one block and have all the data fields separated out automatically.  It literally takes me under 10 seconds to pull fresh data from the forum table.

However, we now seem to be entering a new stage where the spreadsheet is becoming the data reference and the forum table an expression of that.  Certainly, this gives us the opportunity to add more behind-the-scenes functionality, but we do need to address version control.

Adding an annotation on the data is not at all difficult.  I would suggest putting it on line 3 of the heading under Additional Info - in a colour that would be unobtrusive.  (You could even make it White, which would be practically invisible unless you did a click and drag across the text.)  These are fixed cells that are unused and it would be safer than messing around at the end of the table.

I would also suggest that when we have a new version of the spreadsheet, that my practice of posting it as an attachment is used.  This defines a version at a very specific point in time with access available to anyone.  It does not hide it away where access may become problematic.  Besides, there's nothing 'secret' in it.  Curious members could review it and offer suggestions or point out errors.  I would also suggest that previous versions of the spreadsheet could be deleted (modify your post and UNcheck the attachments) to avoid excess baggage on the EEVblog server.

The question as to who is working on the data at any point in time is a key one.

At this moment, it is Cliff.  When he is done with his efforts, I suggest he uploads it as an attachment.  We can discuss the changes and take it from there.  We simply agree who has control and make a post saying so.  Nothing too fancy.

As for the additional functionality of getting subscriber counts, adding a behind the scenes link to a Social Blade page is easy.  Having a person work through it, though, would be somewhat laborious.  I've had a quick look at trying to automate this .... and aside from the process of doing this, consideration has to be given to exception conditions and exactly how we apply this data.  I don't have time to delve into this at the moment - but it could be an add-on down the track.  Then again, a manual process would allow safer handling of exception conditions.

I have not yet added the Play List column ... I was waiting on Cliff to do his big effort first.

Questions on channel name vs channel id I'll leave up to others.  I prefer to keep to the formatting.

Ok Brumby, I will post the xls here, in a day or two.
As for playlists, I now think we should avoid them on smaller channels, since authors can delete, rename or move them. IMO larger channels are less likely to change the things that have built-up viewer counts. We could solicit input and make a separate sticky for really good playlists from established channels though..??

Dang , and I thought was spending too much time on good Youtube videos already ;)
I use a bad memory to scan the list on pg one and recognized about 25 from my list , have many more that are related to electronic's like solar , lithium battery building etc.
One that I did not notice and he sticks out in my mind , Robrenz he may be mostly machining , but does a lot of electronics like building his own Kelvin leads https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coqgyv4FPGY (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coqgyv4FPGY)
Not enough time ?

That's close. I see 7 electronics video's (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqLlQ-D7YaKp_xSS4-bM6lA/videos).  :-//

I counted 9 including the Pizza ovens, which I think are cool.  So I think he deserves to be in. (and he has Playlists ha ha ha).  So 9 + Playlist = 10   :-DD

Seriously it was the Pizza oven.  :-+

Thanks for considering me! I apologize for not noticing the 10 video minimum... Thank you so much for making a bit of an exception I guess... uploading another video as we speak!

Had 'em all on radar - but thanks! Try to weave-through interesting but lightly used electronics channels to check the channels followed by them. This is an example (https://www.youtube.com/user/bkelektronik/channels).

Busy channels tend to cut out ties with personal interest in other channels and focus on "the task at hand", which is to make a channel great. Smaller unknown channels (less subs) don't even bother to see what others are doing and often fail to share accordingly..

Still working away on the list additions, so I need another day.

Today, I saw a prime example of the main page of a channel with no videos, just one playlist with 6 videos, but under video's, 300 have been recorded in the last year (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfi5fp3qsXeqSbsLAIKU6Dw/videos). Go figure.. video's are out there, we just gotta find 'em.

To ensure data quality and minimum manual updates, it should be chosen to use the 24 digit unique ID, even if it is ugly and the channel has a custom URL (which can be changed and therefore is not reliable)

Linking to usernames does not work either, f.ex. I have a youtube username with my original channel, later I created a brand channel for my electronics, but visiting through my username you will only see my personal video channel and not the electronics.

I'm sure there's some duplicates, just didn't track them all. I had upgraded from Libre Office to Office 2010 and it only wanted to run in "compatibility mode" after it crashed. I used to be good at data entry, but these PC's lack a "real enter" key  ;) I had on my mainframe 3276 screen (it must be the reason..)

Perhaps the URL and the channel name should be in their own columns, and IIRC, a replicated formula in another column could assemble the final string as output. Member name in bold, if present, and comments could be assembled in the same way, but with a character limit on comments. I am unable to donate time for another week, but maybe an assortment can be added to the list.

As I mentioned, I think the channels that offer the most usefulness are the mid-sized ones.. Somehow they've gotten past mechanics of presentation and rendering and are able focus on content and often link to hack-a-day pages, personal websites, or code and git sources. Lectures are good while they remain, but I've found some can be uploaded by special needs students against policies of the institution.

Just catching up...

Cliff has provided his workings to ez24 and myself and it is clear he has done a lot of work.  I've only had a quick look - and there are some duplicates I have found, but unless there are mass duplicates (which there doesn't appear to be) the list has grown too big for the limit as it stands.  I'll have a look and discuss what I find with Cliff and ez24 - and there may be some questions that get presented here.

In the mean time, anybody with additional suggestions can still post them here - but please understand that they may not be actioned for a while.

New version of list is posted.  This took out links to members (to save space) and the spreadsheet that the list is based on, has been improved to make it much much easier to use and maintain.  Before I had to build up links by paying attention to syntax and after about 5 links it got really hard to see the "[" and "/" s.  Now only the link address is needed and Brumby set it up that that link is automatically formatted.

Now anyone who can paste into a spreadsheet cell can maintain the list.

SN3 Innovations, LLC is a company and not a guy (or singular person). But they seem to count as having 9 of 10 requisite electronics video's to fulfill Dave Jones' requirements.. I haven't listened to any of their stuff yet, but when they teach electronics, are they trying to sell anything all through-out?

I see. I had not read the requirements. I've just watched the 6 videos about opamp stability and wanted to share my experience. And in those 6 videos they sell nothing, just a whiteboard and explanations.
But yeah I went and googled the company after watching a couple of videos so yes, maybe they serve as promotion of the company after all...
Anyway...

Nothing wrong promoting your company, I was just asking your opinion if they were selling while teaching..
I subscribed to them, and watched loop gain #1 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwCc9AjBSAs). If they're going to continue distracting with continuous back-beat, the young whiteboard bodybuilder guy sure needs a lapel (inalambrico). I'd also offer an opinion that berating other EE's with lines like, "mistakes a lot of engineers make.." when in fact, his age likely doesn't put him at a level to speak that way.
I'm not sure what others think but sure, maybe there's room on the list.

I've seen a sample of Cliff's spreadsheet - and I can see it might need a gentle massage.

What I suggest is this....
 * Cliff - enter only the new data you want added and then make it available to me.
 * I will then massage it into the new format and add it to the spreadsheet.
 * This can then be passed on to ez24 to check, sort and post.

IMO, top of the list ought to go to those who's labor earned subscriber dedication, not for the few finding it easier to sort..

When I was working in HTML the numbers showed up better and made it easier to work with.  Now that I am using Brumby's spreadsheet it is now harder to work with the numbers.

For example:

I added a name given by a forum member and when I pasted the info into the sheet strange things started to happen.  When I Paste Special the info, some cells shifted and threw out the links.  It took me 1/2 hour to figure out that since I was adding a dup strange things happened.  If it were easy to see the names then I would have seen the name was already there.  It was the number of subs that threw me off, there was a big change in the number from the original addition to the new attempt so I did not see the dup.

Also I think it less likely someone will post a dup if it is easier to find the name since that does not change but the number does.  I assume the original poster did not see the dup just like me.

So it is simply easier to maintain if sorted on the YT name.   I am working to make it as simple as possible to maintain because of the size.  There's been some features that I would like to make but they would make it harder to maintain so I backed off.  Brumby is also working on his spreadsheet to make it easier to maintain.

As far as landing on the YT Home page and seeing those annoying self playing videos.  I think most people can deal with them because they are only looking at one YTer at a time and not many like you or me.  If landed on the Video page then the number of subs cannot be seen.  This will make it harder to update the subs.  It took me several hours to update the subs and I think it would have taken me twice as long if I had to scroll on each member.  I agree with you the videos are very annoying but it makes it easier to maintain if the link lands on the Home tab where the subs are visible.  Scrolling takes a long time when doing almost 200 names.

Your idea of getting rid of links to members made it easier to maintain so I got rid of member links.  Thanks

Maybe a monitor or computer issue.  Attach pic is what I see.  I have to scroll up to see the subs.
No I think it's a subscription issue. FYI I haven't subscribed to any YT channels....none at all.
Attached is what I see with sub #'s.

Yes, well.... It looks worse than it is.

Each INDIRECT function sets up a cell reference - and that's all it does, but the structure of what's inside that function is not particularly clear.

The reason this function was used is because it breaks the hard link between a cell reference and the contents of that cell, that can result in a #REF problem when, for example, you delete a row.  This enabled the data to have rows inserted, deleted and sorted without affecting the integrity of the output.

(You should see the spreadsheet I have been working on to help an eBay seller I know change the image URLs in their listings - because of Photobucket's latest extortion.)

I'm just glad that I have been able to make the maintenance job easier - especially for a volunteer effort.

Nothing takes the shine off a good idea more than the drudgery of maintenance, especially when it involves inordinate care in doing so.

Anyone see changes on YouTube lately? Small changes like not offering to toggle between list mode and grid mode on user videos. The UI still offers it, but now we'd have to append ?flow=grid at the end (no space) to offer viewers more per screen than default. I like grid view (it means much less scrolling down, down.) but it adds 10 characters to each entry.

Any opinions?

Roger, Brumby have you given thought to the value of  appending ?flow=grid at the end of URL's?

Roger, Brumby have you given thought to the value of  appending ?flow=grid at the end of URL's?

Firstly, as you said, that will add 10 characters for every occurrence - which is 2,000 characters for 200 lines.  I don't know how much of an impact that will have.  Secondly, my spreadsheet does not add to the data entered, it just wraps formatting code around it.  Since this is essentially a change to the URL, it would be better done by ez24 on an ongoing basis.  I could do a bulk change as a one-off, but that involves some file shuffling between ez24 and me.

However, there seems to be a question as to what this extra coding does.  Even with that answered, the next question is whether it is functionally superior - or just a matter of personal preference.  If it is just personal preference then, unless there is a significant majority that feel about it strongly, I would lean towards keeping the character count down.

What do others think?

It seems the issue is that Youtube presents a channel's videos in a list format or a grid format.

The list format gives a single video per line, but with extra information to the right.  The grid format puts up to six thumbnails per line (depending on your zoom level).

The grid format allows many more videos to be visible in one screen's worth of the page real estate.

From my tests, it seems Youtube remembers the format I used last.  Can others please check and confirm, please?

If this is the case, then I would say no change should be done to the URLs.  Each member would get the videos presented in the format they they individually prefer.

I have mine set to grid and it stayed there after the UI update. No need for extra query parameters to maintain the selected view. Perhaps the anomaly was due to a bad cookie or overly aggressive browser cache.

Hi,

I learned a lot from watching youtbube channels on Electronics.

I was not paying much attention on "Other Blog Specific" board but now I have much more to watch :)

Since fanOfeeDIY posted a good spreadsheet

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/digital-oscilloscope-comparison-chart/msg678378/#msg678378 (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/digital-oscilloscope-comparison-chart/msg678378/#msg678378)

and it became a "sticky", I asked him if he would take over this list if someday I am unable.  I want to say this list is easier than fanOfeeDIY list.

I am 69 and he is 48, so the ages work out.  He accepted the offer.  I will post new updates of the list so he and Brumby can always have the latest version.  If I am unable to keep this up, fanOfeeDIY will post the new list under a new topic he starts.  Mine will be un-sticky and locked.  Seems this will work.  Thanks Brumby for the suggestions.

thanks

OP AMP Videos

A list of them is at

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/beginners/op-amp-youtube-videos-my-list-of-the-best-28-on-the-basics/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/beginners/op-amp-youtube-videos-my-list-of-the-best-28-on-the-basics/)

I will pick 5 to 10 of them and include them in this list

Funny thing:  I blew out my TV watching them on a USB drive.  Every action takes about 60 seconds before it happens, like changing channels or vol control.  My TV is in slo-mo.  It is 2 months old and is a 43 inch Hisense.  Tech help is not available because of the hurricane.

Edit:  I unplugged it for 2 hours, now ok.  Turning off overnight did not help.  Sure needs a firmware fix (NA).

Roger, maybe your TV just needs some new firmware? If it's a HISENSE 43H6D, that's a good price and lots of features.

BTW, another YT channel I've had on the radar is Upcycle Electronics with 202 subscribers and 18 videos.

New update.   Added 25 listings found by looking for op amps.   Op Amp sheet added that shows the calculations on how I picked the 6 that I will add to the list some day.

This might have been explained before, taking a first look at the datasheet, are the opamp videos categorized (as specific videos about opamps) or just a way to find the channels?
Since there's a separate spreadsheet and the search seems to be on the specific channels and not YouTube, I'm not sure.

This is a work in progress, so hang in there.

Brumby and I are working on a new list that will be inside the spreadsheet so there will be one file.  The new list will be recommended videos starting with op amps.   It will take me about a month to do each subject.

Name of this list will be changed to:

"List of Electronics Youtubers - Comprehensive Listing"

and the new one

"List of Electronics Youtubers - Suggested Viewing".

I posted the op amp list to get some feedback because I am trying different things out.  And I appreciated the feedback, especially on the method I used.

Thank You

Two lists makes a lot more sense.

Reasons:
 * The purpose of each list will be clear
 * Maintenance of the lists will not require remembering the 'protocol' for differentiation of the entry types
 * Modifications to the layout of one will not have any impact on the other
 * Separate list in a separate post means the character count limit issue will be less bothersome
... and a couple of other ones which aren't that important since I support the idea.

I would also suggest the URL gets included with the name (as it is in the first list) so that the presentation is cleaner.  (This is easy, since I've already done this.)  This also allows space for any additional information that may become desirable.

Great work so far. Would be nice to see a list on DIY electronics projects (starting with simple - maybe based on some categories?), but I don't dare to suggest it, as then it would be fair for me to find the videos myself. Maybe at some point.

I don't know if it's really suitable considering the other lists. What do you think?

I searched YT on "DIY electronics" and came up with 8,900,000 results.  I think this is a great idea.  I am working on multimeters now and when I finish I will start on DIY electronics.  When I look at a video I also look at Playlists and About and the titles of videos if those do not help.  If some DIY channel concentrates on a subject, I can make a note about this under the "Notes" column.

This will be fun and interesting.

Thank you

Note that counts from Google's search engine can be significantly incorrect on the first few pages of results. Sometimes, you have to get close to the end of the listings to find out how many results there really are. Just an FYI to take that number with a boulder of salt. Nevertheless, 8+ million does indicate that there are many related vids.

What about a secondary list? Perhaps we could identify channels that have taken another direction and/or have not published any fitting content for a while? Or.. move largely inactive channels with less than 5k subs and review twice yearly?

Z1power deleted his videos so I guess he can be removed.

Perhaps delete those 20 lines of wasted space, or ask if you can have a post inserted, moved or owner changed on the post below yours if the forum software allows it. I'm sure wilfred won't mind.

Simple answer:

1. Lock this thread and unpin it.  It will drift down over time.
2. Have the carer for this list start a new thread - with the same title as this.
3. Have the carer make the second (and maybe third) posts.
4. Pin this new thread.
5. The carer can then split the list and put part in the Original Post and part in Reply #1
6. Reply #2 can be for further expansion.

From a cursory examination of the current list, it could be split roughly evenly if it were divided on subs - 10,000 and above in one group and under that for the second.

Another way is a simple alphabetic split.

Brumby, I hope the original URL doesn't change. This would negate all my work giving it out in discussion and comment area's all over YouTube.. Thanks

Cliff, ez24 can put a link in the original post to refer future visitors to the new list.

Finally got the new spreadsheet up and is attached.  I had to delete all comments.  Cliff I think Brumby's idea is the best way to go.  I think the mods would cooperate.

But how would I manage the spreadsheet?  Make two sheets?  If I ignore the table command, I guess I could get use to making two lists from one sheet.

As far as other lists, I did a couple and they bombed.  So I do not want to make another list (split this one is ok).

If I do this I could add the comments back.

The only pisser is I will lose the Thankers.  This topic is number 4 in this forum's record book and I wanted to be #3 (FYI - Brumby is also No. 4 for something).  Maybe I can contact all the thankers and ask them to re-thank  :-DD

If no objections I will have a go on this tomorrow.  I think I understand Brumby's instructions.

1. Lock this thread and unpin it.  It will drift down over time.
2. Have the carer for this list start a new thread - with the same title as this.
3. Have the carer make the second (and maybe third) posts. This should be done immediately - and everyone else stay away until completed
4. Pin this new thread.
5. The carer can then split the list and put part in the Original Post and part in Reply #1
6. Reply #2 can be for further expansion.

Steps 1 and 4 are to be done by the Mods/Admin - and they don't have to be done in sequence.  They can be done afterwards - which is probably the best way anyway.

As far as splitting the table is concerned - ez24 has probably had enough experience to work it out, but if he wants a helping hand, I will see if I can figure out something.

I will need the criteria for setting the split.

Don't think we should loose the main URL (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/other-blog-specific/dd/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/other-blog-specific/dd/))
I've done a good load of promoting.. (see https://www.google.ca/search?q=matthews+eevblog+forum%2Fother-blog-specific/dd/ (https://www.google.ca/search?q=matthews+eevblog+forum%2Fother-blog-specific/dd/) )

IMHO keep it simple: Rename it List Of Electronics Youtubers - Comprehensive A-L and keep it a sticky.
Then move N-Z entries to another sticky List Of Electronics Youtubers - Comprehensive M-Z.
At the top of first, BOLD and Marquee the extended M to Z list.

For List Of Electronics Youtubers M-Z click the link below..                              For List Of Electronics Youtubers M-Z click the link below..

Here is what I am going to do.

Make a new topic (right now it is called "A").  I reserved the first two replys (#2 and #3). This method will allow me to triple the size of the list  :-DD

I will copy the list and split it.  I will leave the original alone.  The only thing I will do is get it un-sticky.  Also I will put in a link to the new version. I will not ask that it be locked so people can still comment on it.

If someone makes a new suggestion on the old list, I will add it to the new one.  I think in a few months the old list will fade away.

Now I have to sit back and think about how to do this  :-//

Cheers

One thing I want to say is that new additions are slow.  Maybe one a month.

I will not make and maintain more lists.  In fact I found one that I made that I forgot about doing this change.  One list is all I can do  (now a split list).

Because of size limits I had to split the list

Unless someone wants to go diving into the database and make changes to it directly - which is something that can be rather dangerous - there will be a change in the URL.  However, as has been suggested (and implemented) the original list has a link to the new list.  For any future references you share, just use the new list URL.  If people coming in on the old link are interested, one more click won't put too many off.  Keeping the list under a single thread also means the parts will stay together and you will only need to share one link.

This is no surprise to me and there is no shame in it whatsoever.  I have found that people find it difficult to follow a defined track in business situations even when it is part of their job - so to take on even this one list in a voluntary role is more than commendable.   :-+

Isn’t it awesome...

We all have GB and even TB of storage and nearly unlimited computing power since the 8-Bit  days and, RAM is cheap, worldwide networks are fast...

We even have this in devices that fit in our hand.

Imagine the possibilities!

And then some doofus codes the communications software with a size limit — about the size of a word processing document from the 8-bit days!

:-)

The irony of that is quite tasty. Sprinkle some engineer tears on it for salt.  LOL!

Denverpilot, you're referring to a shared network exchange like Ethernet? (good design required dicing frames for fairness..)

Just watched the solenoid drum machine (meh..) and definitely didn't learn a thing. IMHO, this highly animated, patreon digging loonie-bin already has 22k subs and doesn't really fit on the list (maybe an entertainment category??). FWIW channel intro:

Since they are not on the list, I will not add them.  An entertainment category would be nice if someone would put such a list together (and Dave allows it).  With Brumby's spreadsheet it is easy to maintain.  Any volunteers?

Richard Wenner: https://www.youtube.com/user/dicktonybo/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/dicktonybo/videos)
This channel is of an outstanding quality.

Each subject is very well researched, documented, then explained and experimented with. From zero to all you need to know, from the bird's eye view of principles, block diagrams and dataflows to practical examples and details. Mainly IoT stuff so far.

His videos are very carefully made.
Highly recommended.

Ok, but there's a lot of mixed un-related stuff in there and he hasn't made any playlists for his own content.
I see little reason to hide subscriber counts..  :-//
