Mr. Carlson gets a new "Old Time Lab"
« on: December 22, 2017, 04:49:05 pm »
Now we get to see boat loads of old scopes! His channel says Canada, but he must tow a trailer down to to American Hamfest's to get it all.

I just made my wife watch this. She has decided I can do the same as long as she gets 50% of the total household space. Not too bad.

Very impressive.
Mr.Carlson definitely has more scopes that I ever had.

This new format may carry a lot of answers for newbie's looking to fix and tinker on a budget. Hope he goes to 2 or 3 cams and starts using pop-up windows more (like Dave). Well, onward and upward! He already has 82k subs and this video alone has >15k views in just 24-hours.. wow!

I think I'm gonna miss the opening shot where it looks like the old scopes from the fifties are about to cave in on him.

When looking at all those racks with equipment I wonder how much use they see. My own experience is that stuff that requires me to move it around and hook it up before I can use it gets little to no use in practice. But then again I'm the lazy kind of guy that tends to use the stuff that is within arms reach.

This looks like my very first oscilloscope, Dumont something or other.   That brings back some fond childhood memories.

So many projects - I couldn't complete 1/10th of them in the life I have left!  :phew:
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

I have to keep that video bookmarked, for next time SWMBO makes any comment on my electronics holdings.

Looks like Mr Carlson has a bad case of G.A.S. I've seen electronics surplus stores with less stock than his lab. Still, it means more videos from someone who has a very good presentation style so there's no way I can complain.

What's missing? I have a lot of pictures in my old technical books going back to the 1920's and quite a few of them have bare wires on insulators for things like power running down the walls and big knife switches. That lab needs more of a 'steampunk' feel.

When someone complains about my 'electronic parts super store' I'll give him a link to that video. >:D Anyway, all that vintage gear will keep Mr. Carlson's basement warm and cozy.

This video is definitively a good 'excuse' for anyone to keep stacking equipment

I wonder if he dedicates 100% of his time to his lab/videos or he has an 8hr day job as well...

Yes, he has a day job. From memory it's either something to do with repairing large switched mode power supplies or VFD modules. He certainly seems to know a lot about this part of the industry.

Oh yeah, most of the videos are shot with his wife doing the camera work.
