1-cell NIMH charging
« on: October 15, 2018, 09:43:40 pm »
Hello everyone. I'm working on a circuit where I'm planning on using 1xAAA NIMH battery. I want to charge the battery in circuit and not have to remove it from the device.

Is it ok to be constantly charging a NIMH battery or recharging a battery that has been slightly discharged?

I plan on using a chip like the DS2710 from maxim to charge the battery.
In normal use the device will leave the charging station for say around 5-15 minutes then come back to the charging station and could stay there only a couple of minutes or a couple of hours. When the device comes back to the charging station, it will enter a low power mode to reduce current consumption (about 50uA) and during operation away from the charging station it'll consume about 15 mA.
