Charge control IC LED control circuit (off-flash-on)
« on: June 26, 2018, 07:26:02 pm »
Hi,

I am using an MCP73831 LIon charge controller IC. It has a status pin with the following output:
  • Shutdown/No battery: HiZ
  • Charging: 0
  • Charged: 1

This is obviously designed to be used with a bicolour LED like this: http://www.neufeld.newton.ks.us/electronics/?p=151. But I would like to drive a single LED with the following functionality:
  • Shutdown/No battery: HiZ - LED off
  • Charging: 0 - LED flashing
  • Charged: 1 - LED on

I have considered using a Schmitt oscillator to do the flashing (http://electronics-course.com/schmitt-trigger-oscillator). But I cannot quite figure out how to get it to work with the above functionality.

I would like to keep the component count as low as possible. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
