Cheap and Nasty EPROM Programmer
« on: June 22, 2018, 08:44:33 pm »
Greetings,

I thought I'd start by posting what I'm working on right now.  This is a programmer for AMD Am27C010 EPROMs designed to work with the Raspberry Pi.  I got a buch of these ROMs for a ZX81 clone I'm working on (I'll post that at some point) and rather than waste money on a programmer I decided to make one.  It's a bit 'how ya doin' as Dave would say but hopefully it will get the job done.  The programming voltages it puts out are roughly VCC=6.4V and VPP=12.9V which are within tolerance (datasheet says 6.25 and 12.75 with 0.25 margin either way).  The VPP Enable input sets them both to 5V when high.

If I'm ordering a part like that I usually overspec and get a few of it that can be used in different projects.  If this goes well I want to try doing a Spectrum.

Seems like it would be easier to use something like the TL866. If you're feeling really ambitious it would be great if someone could write a new program to operate it. The one it comes with works but it's Windows only and full of Engrish.

Interesting.  I might look into that at some point.
