I am considering the possibility to have a horizontal FFC connector on a PCBA that will be potted and used in a high volume automotive application. Depending on the complete assembly, it is tempting to have a flex cable and a connector instead of a rigid-flex PCB. What I struggle with is the risk of having potting compound inside the connecting area of the FFC, so I would like to add some kind of high viscosity protective layer on top of the assembled connector before the potting is done. The potting compound is similar to water and mainly dictated by the chemical environment, so that is not possible to change.
Total area to cover is approx 1 square cm and roughly 2 mm height above the PCB surface. Ideally this should be 1 component, with short curing time in room temperature and possible to dispense.
Anyone with experience of this?
