Can anyone share circuit schematic for the Hakko FX888D soldering station? My soldering station is just a year old and already dead. I was working at higher temperatures and within a few minutes smoke stated coming out of the controller box. I opened the soldering station and noticed that a few components on the PCB got cooked up including a 24 pin QFP IC.

What's the marking on the IC? If it's a genuine Hakko, it's a custom part and basically unobtanium. They might try to sell you a whole new PCB. Ironically (pun intended) if you had a fake, clone, it might've been something more common... but still not as reliable and easy to fix as the old analogue controller.
Some pictures would help us see what happened.

I tried finding finding the schematic a while ago in order to build my own iron setup.. But a couple years ago I found the manual in English it was no help but when I looked at the Chinese version I found an e-mail for the schematics and repair manual ....

Call Hakko USA to see if they'll honor the warranty, they also stock all the parts. This is the first time I've heard of any Hakko burning up.

Sorry for the delayed response.
1) It is a genuine hakko product.
2) I have attached a pdf file with pics. Components IC2 and Q6 are damaged.
3) I was working at max temperature (450 deg C perhaps) for 10 minutes when it malfunctioned.
Would really appreciate if someone could provide a fix or circuit schematic.

I will conclude that it's genuine as well, the PCB matches someone else's FX-888D (http://runawaybrainz.blogspot.ca/2013/03/hakko-fx-888d-solder-station-hi-res.html) and we now know that the microcontroller it uses is a Renesas R5F1007C (i.e. the good thing is that it is NOT a custom Hakko part - but still Japanese so unlikely to be a Chinese clone). The datasheet is here and it shows the burnout occurred at the Vss/Vdd pins:

Unfortunately this MCU is still basically unobtanium. (Note that this post appears to be the first time the actual one used in the FX-888D has been mentioned on the Internet. :D)

Probably some little thing like more space for a better control of the temp.
They might be doing something simple like watching how fast the temp is changing.
On heat up this could give the control program an idea of how much mass the current tip has and what adjustments to make to make control hold a temp better.
While soldering this could give a hint of what is being soldered like to 30 gage wires or something to a huge ground plane.
Or something simple as updating the control program while keeping the current control program functional in case something goes wrong during the update.
According to Renesas's site it's only a $0.10 to $0.40 cost difference.

I hope it's actually still under warranty, and let Hakko sort it out for you. If not, you'll have to see if they'll sell you the parts or the board that's toast (given the cost of the station though, it may not be all that cost effective).
