Removing the load from a triac circuit
« on: September 27, 2017, 08:02:25 am »
Hi,

I have a triac doing phase-angle control of a 240V heating element. The element is connected between MT2 and neutral. I'd like to add a simple SPST switch between MT2 and the load to allow the load to be temporarily disconnected and re-inserted without changing the phase angle controller.

Will the triac be damaged by the sudden removal and reinsertion of the load while phase-angle control is happening?
