indentifying unmarked current sense transformer
« on: September 22, 2011, 05:38:04 pm »
I am working on a reverse engineering project that is fairly simple, but there is one unmarked part that I want to know the specs of. It appears to be a current sense transformer. I know it carries ~12A (full load) 115VAC @ 60hz on the current side. I just don't know what the turn ratios are and what the voltage/amp spec is on the "sense" side. I've never worked with these before and had to figure out what this was in the first place. Now that I know (i'm quite please with myself for that) I still need to know the specs.
One idea I had is to run an amp through it and see what the linear response is. but that won't tell me the whole story, like max current, optimal range etc.

Any thoughts on this?
