Looking for a source for a 24nH through hole inductor
« on: April 25, 2017, 03:44:12 am »
Hey all,

I'm trying to source 24nH through hole inductor for a modification to a spectrum analyzer. I've found that Vishay have one that is close but it seems no one carries the range.

Been to the usual suspects like DigiKey, Mouser, etch but the smallest TH inductor seems to be 100nH.

Any suggestions?

If this is a one-off for yourself, just make an air-core inductor for yourself? It's a handful of turns at most. In fact, even a 28mm long straight piece of wire has an inductance of 24nH.

What frequency does it need to work at? What is the nature of the modification you are making? How did you come to the conclusion that 24nH is the value you want?

If you're designing the PCB, then how about making it part of the board by using a spiral PCB trace?

Thanks all - The modification I'm making to the spectrum analyzer is in its cal signal output - Specifically converting it from 75 ohm to 50 ohm - So I'm trying to get a component that fits into the existing boards (the changes in component values, resistors and inductors,  are the only differences between the 50 ohm and 75 ohm 3rd converter boards).

The 75 ohm 3rd converter has approx. 75nH as the inductor whereas the 50 ohm one has 24nH. The frequency of the cal signal is 300 MHz.

I looked at those Digikey bits but they're non-stock so the order would be around $350. The Abracon one seems to have the same issue as the Vishay one in that there isn't any stock available. Mouser is implying that the Delevan one is non-stocked but can be ordered in single quantities for $13 so I'll give that a try.

Thanks again,

TonyG

Don't forget to adjust for lead inductance and such.
