Modified USB cable for kinect 2 on PC?
« on: August 30, 2014, 11:03:52 am »
Kinect 2: is a HD 3D video camera for the gaming console Xbox one
http://www.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/Xbox_One_Kinect

M$ made it incompatible with the PC so they can sell the same device again but now for your PC.
Obviously if you already have one people don't want to pay 200$ for a second one.
Hence people want to see what needs to be hacked to make it work on the PC.

I like to know what needs to be done to make it work on a PC, so any info....

This is a video of people claiming that a modified USB3.0 cable made it work.
Although they don't say what the modifications are, (probably because they want to be the first to sell those cables)

Does this help? http://openkinect.org/wiki/Kinect_2

It sounds like all MS did was put a proprietary connector on the end of the cable.

Yes, it seems only an extra 12V need to be provided, everything else is just connections.
That explains the power supply in the video above.

Then there is probably also some tweaking with drivers since they say they got the audio working first and now also the video.

Now we would need an idea about the required current.
