Permanent / Long Life rated Electrolytics
« on: October 05, 2018, 11:36:48 am »
Hello everyone,

I am working on a diesel based 12V automotive power supply which I need to install a transient / filtering / reverse polarity for a permanent supply stage.

The most convenient location is downstream of the main voltage regulators etc and before the ignition switch. This would also be very heplful for a 'clean' 12V to some servo's. The trouble is this would mean, pretty much, permanently charged capacitors (5-15yr assumed) other than when the main start battery is changed out or the control electronics swich off the battery isolator for low voltage protection.

The absolute maximum working temp is approx 30deg C. Using 105-125degC rated Electrolytics (I was lookng at the Vishay 136RVI range) can caps be used reliable in this application? Would permentaly charged be bettter than power cycling?

Thoughts would be most welcome.

Thanks
Matt
