shipping charges -Mouser-!
« on: December 18, 2015, 05:55:26 pm »
Hello,

As I am in the process of designing a personal project, I visited Mouser.com to look at the prices of the components needed in my design. rail-rail Op amp, precision resistors, current sense options and such. I do not have issues with the components prices specially that there is no minimum order required.
to test Mouser shipping charges , I added some components ,that costs me 17.31 USD, then comes the big BOOM
the shipping charges are : 54 USD.

How the hell am I supposed deal with the fact that the shipping charges are too damn high, in fact with the 54 USD I will be able to buy all the components needed & send a PCB for Fabrication & buy a cup of coffee.
Is their a workaround to this issue?. maybe other options?
is this normal?

The question that I will be asked is where do you live?  ;D
The answer is: United Arab emirates, Dubai
unfortunately, my country consumes & don't produce
so local options are very limited.

Regards,
Asim

Edit: I used Post office Box shipping type

Shipinng charges to oversees can be quite high. It also depends very much on the distributor. Some just have quite high charges as this may include filling out customs papers and so on. So maybe look at a different distributor with lowr charges.

No one can help you unless you tell us what country you are in.

Today, only 26,000 remain.

You can always sign up for a fedex or ups account that includes a discount on international shipments and have mouser bill your account directly.  It won't cut the price from $54 to $5, but it'll save you some money.

Do you mean something like Aramex,DHL that will receive my shipment from Mouser & then resend it to me ? if that's what you mean then the answer is yes. a friend of mine doing that with Aramex  while buying from Amazon. I will dig into that option.

It is a bit ridiculous indeed. Fedex is one of the most expensive of all for oversees delivery. And be prepared, they bill you afterwards the customs and VAT and other costs separately always! And that includes VAT and customs of the shipping costs itself also.

On the other hand if you order over $60, Mouser's shipping is free and no customs etc. Ay least, it is the situation in my country. Maybe it is different in other countries.

This is why I always save up my Mouser orders using the BOM tool and when it gets over sixty Euro I just hit the order button. What is fun is watching the weird route the parcel takes, last time my stuff went to Paris twice before it finally arrived.

Does digikey still do the free shipping on mail in orders of any value, and does it apply to international orders?
Because that is an option.
