Purchase of scope
« on: November 28, 2014, 03:18:07 pm »
Hi guys,
I am now ready to buy the rigol DS1054Z 4 channel scope. Tell me your opinion about this scope or tell me if there is any better option.

First, you should go to the test equipment forum and use the search feature; you'll find a lot.  Second, watch EEVblogs 674, 675, and 683.

And EEVblog 522. Probably 451 as well - many of the advantages of the new generation Rigol 2000 series Dave discusses in that video are shared by the 1000Z series.

And maybe one or two YouTube reviews, such as Connor Wolf's assessment of the 1104Z.

Tell me your opinion about this scope or tell me if there is any better option.

Whether there is a better option for you depends very much on your budget, experience and requirements.

Take a look at the Siglent SDS2000 series as well if you consider buying the Rigol 1000Z. The SDS2000 is in a different price range but may offer features the Rigol 1000Z lacks.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Has Siglent fixed their bugs since august? Last time I checked the SDS2000 series where pretty much in a pre-beta state, considering the firmware. The hardware is definitely great for the price, but how is their software at the moment?

Even with the beta firmware the SDS2000 is useable as a daily oscilloscope. I'm pretty sure Siglent will come up with new software which addresses the issues. They do that for their other equipment as well. The big question is when. It seems Siglent has a Christmas promotion for the SDS2000 series; it would be nice if they combined that with a new and much improved software version.
