Quiz What is this and can it be scaled up....
« on: November 14, 2018, 01:31:50 am »
Can I use this scaled up......and what do you think it's for ?
What will I scale it to do ?
Clues if required will be offered later.

First pic in a little custom tool project and yes it's electronics related !

It might be used to wind a transformer or ferrite wire at high speed

I am not sure what a Bobbin Holder for fly tying would scale up to from an electronics point of view...

I approach the thinking of all of my posts using AI in the first instance. (Awkward Irregularity)

Neither did I until a little repair project came up and it seemed like scaling it up was an obvious choice.

Another better one from my fly tying kit:

Still, we have to scale it up some as the thread bobbin hasn't enough capacity.

I've used these....
Getting warm.  :)

So instead of something barely 100mm long it's now ~150mm and can accommodate the smaller solder reels or in this case a big cotton bobbin:

BOM
2.5mm HT fencing wire, 1/8" copper tube, 3/8" copper ferrule and custom steel buttons for the reel to center on.

Still, what will be it's purpose ?

You're winding a wind turbine generator?
I refuse to use AD's LTspice or any other "free" software whose license agreement prohibits benchmarking it (which implies it's really bad) or publicly disclosing the existence of the agreement. Fortunately, I haven't agreed to that one, and those terms are public already.

Fishing line reel winder, seen them used to wind 1KG solder rolls onto smaller 200g ones, if you disconnect the ratchet it would work exactly as you want.

Otherwise, something as simple as this, http://www.lapsun.com/soldering-solder-wire-reel-dispenser-holder-stand-tin-management-spool-feeder_p1008.html

Have its base weighted, and just spin the piece in your hands.

As to the purpose, I'm left thinking BLDC motor coil
