Experiences - Sierra Wireless CF3 2G/3G/4G modules?
« on: December 08, 2017, 10:02:27 am »
Hi Everyone,

I'm about to embark on an "IoT" (shudder, I hate the phrase) project with a very tight time frame. We need cellular Internet access and some reasonable processing power on the devices and have found the Sierra Wireless CF3 modules.

These are basically an integrated modem and Arm Cortex A5 based computer that runs a Linux derivative OS. all this is good for us, we just need to bolt on our other bits.

But before we venture too far, I was wondering:

  • Has anyone has used these?
  • Any surprises and gotcha's?
  • Reliability / impressions / etc?

There don't appear to be any other vendors making compatible modules, so we would be locked in for the lifespan of the product (a few years...). The majority of our market will be North America and Europe, but some in Australia. Unfortunately there seems to be only 3G support for Australia using the "global" version (no 2G here any more). 3G would be fast enough for us.

I'd really value any input!  :-+

Thanks,
Ash.
