Hi, as one that had his share of troubles with upgrading a RIGOL, even a MSO model that is much of a pain to do (one needs to dump the memory by opening it), I'll try to walk you trough the basic checklist:
- 1) Don't panic and don't try stuff found on obscure websites and youtube videos, this a click/views bringing theme and many of those videos and pages are just click baits, sadly even if the makers of them are technically incompetent in all things electronics related, they are experts in promoting their crap and it will show up on your searches, I'll say use EEVBLOG only as source of information for this project.
- 2) Have you used the correct website for the generation, the correct link is:
http://gotroot.ca/rigol/riglol/Be aware of other copycats and fake pages, and also when you type some stuff in a help message, make sure that you type correctly, this goes for numbers, error messages and so on.
- 3) Did you type the serial number fully and with correct capitalization, younger people don't care too much about capitalization nowadays, but serial generators do
.
- 4) Did you select the right options to activate on your scope, DS1000z device options:
DSAB - Advanced Triggers
DSAC - Decoders
DSAE - 24M Memory
DSAJ - Recorder
DSBA - 500uV Vertical
DSEA - 100MHz
DSFR - all options
I know is tempting to try the
DSFR to activate all and be done, because is boring and tedious to enter them, but if the "All Options" key is not working, try individual options, for example
DSEA and see if it works.
- 5) Send your scope serial number in a private message to a member who is willing to help you, better make a picture of your scope back label and front panel System Info value of the S/N, to make sure that they are equal and send these pictures to the one that helps you. Compare and test the key you're receiving from him with yours.
- 6) Fortunately for you, your scope desn't need to be opened to dump its RAM, there are some commands to do it and use a serial generator program on it, this is more cumbersome and use it after you've tried and failed all the above options.
Good luck,
DC1MC
